Vehicle description

"The flair of the real BMW has been revived here. Namely the impressively effortless handling, the performance that can be called up immediately at any time and the entire – quite simply – convincing driving culture." This is how the press kit presented to visitors to the Geneva Motor Show in 1976 at the BMW stand described it. The object of praise: the new Six-Seater Coupé, the successor to the E9. With a construction period of 13 years (from 1976 to 1989), the internally named E24 6 Series was one of the most durable BMW model series. In comparative tests at the time, it competed against Mercedes SLC of the 107 series or the Porsche 928. Handling, comfort and performance made the six-seater a grandiose Gran Turismo, which proved its sportiness with three touring car championships.

In this auction, a six-seater coupe of the E24 series will be auctioned off as the 628 CSI. First registered in January 1979, this E24 still belongs to the early floor assembly based on the platform of the first 5 series (E12) and built by Karmann. The coupé first delivered in Spain comes from 2nd ownership and previous owner was according to the current owner a film industry. The vehicle identification number is WBA51310005570103. The CSI has matching numbers. There are two more keys to the vehicle. In addition, the TÜV will be renewed upon successful sale. In total, the current owner has invested about €14,000 in the CSI.

Chestnut Red Metallic is the name of the exact manufacturer color designation of the lacquer dress, it reflects wonderfully the zeitgeist of the 70s. The paint has been slightly repaired due to the strong solar radiation in Spain, but the owner refers to the accident-free condition of the six. Only slight paint chips and scratches on the rear bumper are to be complained about. The chrome is still in brilliant condition and the decorative elements have no damage. Due to the fact that this E24 comes from Spain, rust is not an issue.

Coveted original BMW rims adorn the 628 CSI as well as brand new tyres in size 195/70 R14 from the well-known Vredestein brand. Apparently, there is nothing to complain about the rims, nor about the condition of the brakes, which can be described as good. There are no shortcomings in these areas. The chassis presents itself in its original condition.

In the interior, grey velour seats await you in a well-kept state of preservation, without chafed seat cheeks or other cracks. As a small shortcoming in the interior, the owner reports of a headrest bent by the sun at the rear right. The controls and displays in the centre console, which are typically inclined towards the driver's seat by BMW, are in perfect condition. In addition to power steering and 4 power windows, the 628 CSI also has central locking, air conditioning and an accessory radio.

According to the speedometer unit, the 628 CSI has already covered an incredible 252,546 km. At the sight of this E24, however, one would not want to admit this mileage, as the coupé hides its now 42 years confidently. It can certainly be said that the six-seater is in good condition for this mileage, also due to the fact that the substance of the car is preserved above average. The instruments also impress with their flawless function.

When looking at the engine compartment, you would not expect the mileage either, as it is in good and clean condition. Power is provided by a 2.8-litre in-line six-cylinder engine with injection and 184 hp. The internally named M30 engine is an iron pig, indestructible with regular care and very cultivated in the smoothness, but it still has a lot of sound to offer. Shifting is via a 4-speed manual transmission from Getrag, with which the BMW can be moved sportily. According to the owner, a service was only freshly done, the ignition system and the thermostat were repaired. Underbody-wise, the 628 CSI is in a very nice state of preservation, rust is also not visible in this area. In addition, the tank and the exhaust have been renewed, so that here too everything is in the green area.
Overall, you offer here on a great vehicle that can be used perfectly as a daily driver. For those who appreciate the quality of BMW and are looking for a 6-cylinder, this CSI is the perfect car!
