Model history

The Mercedes-Benz R107 and C107 were produced from 1971 to 1989 and are among the brand's longest-lived model series. The R107 was a two-seater roadster with a removable hardtop, while the C107 (SLC) was a four-seater coupé with a fixed roof. The roadster replaced the W113 ("Pagoda") and was not replaced by the R129 until 1989, while the coupé was replaced by the C126 as early as 1981. The R107 was particularly successful in the USA: 68% of production (over 204,000 units) was exported there. In order to comply with US regulations, it was fitted with special bumpers, headlights and exhaust gas purification systems. It was the only Mercedes roadster of its time to combine timeless design with robust technology and luxurious equipment and is now regarded as a coveted classic.

Summary of the car

This Mercedes-Benz 560 SL (R107) from 1987 impresses with its unique history, which begins with Lt. General Selmon Willard Wells as the first owner. The vehicle has demonstrably been fully maintained and is in its original condition, with original paintwork and original soft top. It is accident-free, absolutely rust-free and has never been excessively restored - even the spray mist from the original paintwork is still visible in the wheel arches.

After being converted to the European version by Frieling Classic Cars in 2014, the SL was driven in Münsterland. The last owners made extensive investments, including an engine overhaul in the summer of 2024. All work was documented in detail. A brief assessment from September 2023 gives the 560 SL a condition rating of 2+ and confirms its overall exceptionally good condition.

This 560 SL is not only a classic with a special history, but also immediately ready to drive and technically in perfect condition. A rare opportunity for collectors and enthusiasts to acquire a fully documented and original example of one of the most sought-after Mercedes-Benz roadsters.
