Vehicle description
The first Porsche Cabriolet with a front engine was launched in 1988 – 3 years after the presentation of the design study at the IAA in 1985. The production of the body-in-white pressed at the Audi plant in Neckarsulm went a long way through the American Sunroof Company (ASC), which was located in Heilbronn especially for the convertible conversion, to the Porsche main plant for completion, which ultimately paid off: The 944 Cabriolet combined efficient aerodynamics with elegant lines and high suitability for everyday use. The top model at the end of the construction period of the 944 Cabriolets was the 944 Turbo Cabriolet, built in a limited special series of only 528 units. Despite a deficit of 0.8-liter displacement and 50 hp, the 944 Turbo Convertible ran as fast as the 930 Turbo – 260 km/h.
The 944 Turbo version offered in this auction is one of only 528 Turbo Cabriolets built. This transaxle athlete was first admitted with the FIN WP0ZZZ95ZMN130215 in March 1991, over the years a total of 4 previous owners have come together according to the knowledge of the current seller. The history of this Porsche can be traced back approximately via a partial history of the car. The last completed main inspection will run until May 2023, and the 944 Turbo is already in possession of an H approval. In addition to 2 vehicle keys, an expert opinion can be submitted, furthermore this cabriolet has matching numbers.
Powerfully flared wheel arches and air intakes in the bow characterize the turbo variant of the 944. The body of the vehicle is kept in black, on request with the current owner whether there are repaints, the seller is not aware of anything. In addition, the latter states that no accident occurred during its holding period. In terms of paint, the Turbo Cabriolet is in very good shape: rust, serious scratches or dents are not found on the body. Damage to the canopy can also not be noted. This 944 does not have any modifications deviating from the original condition.
According to the seller, the tires are already a bit older and should be changed with a new owner / driver. The car has the original Porsche alloy wheels – which are in curb-scratch-free condition – mounted on the car. The condition of the brake system can be described as in order, no deficits are to be enumerated in terms of chassis technology.
Just like the exterior of this Porsche, the interior is also presented in black: full leather seats, door panels, footwell carpet, four-spoke leather steering wheel, gear knob and dashboard have no defects. The entire interior can be attested to an extremely well-preserved and clean state of preservation. The electrical function to open and close the soft top works perfectly and without any problems. Features of this 944 Turbo Cabriolet include: power steering, central locking, electric mirror adjustment, electric windows, electric seat adjustment, heated seats, air conditioning, ABS and an accessory radio. All equipment elements as well as all instruments and displays have a problem-free function.
The cockpit is oval, which exudes a touch of the Porsche 928 with four large round instruments. In the 944 Turbo, a boost pressure indicator is housed in the rev counter. The speedometer shows 58,240 kilometers: According to the seller, this mileage can be traced on the one hand via a partially kept checkbook, on the other hand via various cancelled invoices and TÜV reports from the past.
The 2.5-litre in-line four-cylinder engine delivers 250 hp via turbocharging – this power is transmitted to the rear wheels via a 5-speed manual transmission. According to the current holder, there are no defects in the technology. In 2021, this Turbo Cabriolet underwent final maintenance.
The underbody condition of this 944 is kept clean according to the low overall mileage.Everyday suitability and excellent driving performance packed in a strictly limited edition of only 528 pieces? – A must-have for connoisseurs and connoisseurs.
