Vehicle description
Model history:
In order to enable sports car fans with tighter budgets to enjoy Healey driving, Austin-Healey decided to launch a particularly inexpensive roadster called Sprite from 1958 onwards, which was intended to appeal above all to younger drivers. Until 1971, a total of four generations of the Sprite were produced. There were plenty of conversion kits on the market with which anyone could upgrade their sprite - either visually or technically. Of course, there were also companies that converted these vehicles on request: Among them was the tuning company Speedwell, which visually and technically modified the small Austin-Healey Sprite.
General information about the vehicle:
Now such an Austin-Healey MKII Speedwell from the year of construction 1961 can be auctioned, which is an import from Holland and is left-hand drive. Overall, the now partially restored Austin-Healey with the chassis number H-AN6-L / 2485 had according to seller statements 3 owners in possession. An exact history of the vehicle can no longer be presented, but the mileage of the car is partly traceable according to the current owner. It is known that this Austin-Healey was modified shortly after its delivery at Speedwell. TÜV has the Sprite MKII until June 2023.
Exterior colour/varnish/body:
Aerodynamically, the body of the Austin-Healey Speedwell is characterized by its curved shapes compared to the normal Sprite MKII body. The Ashley hardtop makes this Sprite MKII an elegant GT. After consultation with the current owner of the car, only the hood was repainted on the body. All attachments on the vehicle are available and the chrome trim elements on the exterior apparently still shine as they should. To get a detailed picture of the state of preservation of the exterior, please have a look at the other photos and videos.
Exterior rims/brakes/chassis:
On the black spoke wheels tires are mounted, which, according to the seller, still have 70-90% of their new condition. According to the current owner, the brake system also has 70-90%. In terms of suspension, this Austin-Healey was designed to be a bit sportier.
Interior:
Racing feeling can be experienced in the interior of this Austin-Healey Sprite MKII Speedwell: In addition to the 3-spoke sports steering wheel, the cockpit, which is tightly tailored overall, ensures that sportiness arises. The black imitation leather seats have white piping, in the rear compartment of the car there is still a fire extinguisher and a spare wheel. According to the seller, missing parts or damage cannot be mentioned in the interior of the Sprite, only normal signs of use can be found. All controls and displays work perfectly. For a detailed overview of the interior, we refer to the other photos
Mileage
The round instruments in the dashboard of the Sprite MKII Speedwell are set in chrome: According to the seller, this car should have run a total of 10,000 kilometers, partly comprehensible.
Engine
Under the bonnet of this Sprite MKII works a nearly 1.0-liter inline four-cylinder, which delivers 64 hp via a 4-speed manual transmission to the rear wheels. Final service work took place in June 2022.
Subsoil:
As rustproof, unwelded and cavity preserved, the seller declares the underbody condition of the Austin-Healey - he also mentions that there are only 2 copies of this version and the Speedwell is accordingly rare. This Austin-Healey Sprite MKII Speedwell is a small racer, which is not to be underestimated, at the same time will rarely be seen in this version and thus attracts attention.
