Vehicle description
Mazda was Felix Wankel's fourth licensee in 1961 – and can now be hailed as the company that perfected this technology. Until 2012, the Japanese held on to Wankel's rotary piston engine, but with the end of the RX-8 they said goodbye for the time being. The sometimes most sophisticated form of the turbine-like high-revving engine was used in the RX-7 FC. Built from 1978 to 2002, this car was available as a coupé and as a convertible and looked much more mature than its predecessor. The most powerful version of the RX-7 of the 2nd generation in Germany was the Turbo II with 200 hp. After around 272,000 units were produced, the RX-7 FD replaced the RX-7 FC in Germany in 1992.
Now in this auction a Mazda RX-7 of the 2nd generation is offered as Turbo II Cabriolet for auction, which comes from the year of construction 1988 and has a total of 4 previous owners including the current holder. This Turbo II was first admitted to traffic in June 1989. This convertible with the FIN FC183200200148 is an import from Sweden, according to the seller, the RX-7 lived its life in the hands of a private collector. A history of the car is known. The last completed main inspection is valid until April 2024, the so-called matching numbers are assumed.
"Nero" is the name of the black paint color of this RX-7 Turbo II Cabriolet: Visually, the body presents itself in a rust- and damage-free condition except for a few small paint defects according to the seller, even the folding headlights characteristic of this model work perfectly. Color differences in paint technology cannot be identified, all gap dimensions are uniform. Parking bumps on the rear or front bumper cannot be detected. In extremely good condition without any cracks in the material, the hood of the RX-7 can be found.
Tyres with sufficient tread are mounted on the original Mazda multi-spoke rims, which are in very good shape. The brakes are also in very good condition, in the area of the chassis no modifications can be detected deviating from the original condition.
Like the paint color, the interior of this Mazda RX-7 Turbo II Cabriolet is also kept: Everything in the interior is black, the seats have no complaints except for minimal patina in the leather and scratches on the side wall of the driver's seat and the 3-spoke leather steering wheel and the leather shift knob are not particularly worn. Overall, the interior can be attributed a very well preserved condition in accordance with the low mileage. Electric windows, electric mirror adjustment, power steering, digital clock and an original cassette radio are part of the equipment of the Cabriolet. The soft top of the Mazda is easy to open and close again, a tarpaulin is available.
Orange markings are placed on black dials: the rev counter is centrally located, the speedometer with integrated speedometer sits to the right of it and shows a mileage of only 31,810 kilometers – this mileage can be traced via a partially stamped checkbook. All displays and instruments perform their duties flawlessly.
The two-disc Wankel with a displacement of 2x 654 cc delivers 200 turbocharged hp, and the individual gears are engaged via a manual 5-speed transmission. The entire powertrain is flawless according to the overall mileage of this RX-7, a final inspection was carried out at Mazda at mileage 31,788 in March 2021.
As the low mileage of this convertible suggests, the underbody condition of the Mazda is in a very good condition without complaints and unwelded. Above all, the special technology convinces in a Mazda RX-7: The turbine-like revving up and the associated completely uniform power output (which of course promises extra thrust in the Turbo II) are on the credit side of the Wankel engine drive. Due to the very low mileage of this Turbo II model offered here, the Cabriolet is a real opportunity – not only for collectors and enthusiasts. The exterior, interior and technology are all kept clean in this Mazda RX-7 FC Turbo II Convertible according to the low overall mileage.
