Vehicle description
Hardly any other Mercedes-Benz is as clichéd as the W 123: when the W 123 came onto the market in 1976 with very long delivery times, it was nothing more than a facelifted stroke eight, combined with a representative body in the style of the S-Class. Technically, almost everything remained the same, whether double camshaft six-cylinder or five-cylinder diesel, double wishbones at the front or semi-trailing arms at the rear. But the feeling of the heavy car and the satisfaction of having arrived in the upper middle class is embodied in an exemplary way by this ursolid Mercedes-Benz. It became a symbol of social advancement and shaped an entire generation in the 70s.
The Mercedes-Benz W 123 offered in this auction is the petrol model 200, which dates from 1982. The classic white (737) saloon with the FIN WDB12322010107966 was first delivered to Italy – The first owner was a doctor and allowed the W 123 to enter circulation for the first time on 27.11.1982 in Ascoli Piceno. He cared for his Mercedes meticulously and, according to the son, only drove in good weather. The son eventually inherited the vehicle and deregistered it in 2002 to put it away in a garage with a protective blanket. It wasn't until 2019 that the son had the heart to sell the W 123 to a collector. This collector approved the Mercedes-Benz again in 2019 and took care of the Italian H license plate ("Certificato ASI"). Since September 2021, the car has been in the possession of the last owner, who now wants to sell the sedan. A partially completed checkbook as well as a large number of documents and documents are enclosed for the traceability of the history of the W 123. Furthermore, 3 vehicle keys, the complete on-board folder, the original vehicle brochures and the original on-board tools are available. According to the seller, "matching numbers" are given. A German TÜV is valid until March 2024, this Mercedes-Benz already has a German H-approval – The current owner draws attention to the fact that the vehicle has been deregistered and officially exported in Italy and must be re-registered in Germany (all necessary documents are enclosed). A certificate of the "Automotoclub Storico Italiano" with ASI metal badge is available.
According to the previous owner, only the trunk lid was repainted due to a scratch. The seller indicates that the white paint is in excellent, mint condition. Overall, the condition of the exterior can be described as extremely good, well-maintained and flawlessly preserved – all trim parts on the W 123 are fully preserved on the car and the chrome elements show themselves in beautiful splendour. External modifications deviating from the original condition are not to be listed. In addition, the body has neither rust nor an accident.
Bridgestone tyres from 2018 (fitted in October 2021) with full tread in dimension 195/70 are mounted on original Mercedes-Benz 14-inch steel rims with chrome hubcaps. Apparently, no damage can be removed from the rims, and the brakes are also in very good shape. The chassis presents itself original and preserved without deficits.
In contrast to the white exterior color, the interior is kept: This is mostly blue, as seats serve partial leather armchairs. There are no signs of use in the entire interior, all components still have their original and original colour. – Changes in the interior of the Mercedes-Benz deviating from the original condition are not to be found. According to the data card, the W 123 was delivered with the following optional extra features: power steering, central locking, thermally insulating glass all around and folding front armrest. As an equipment highlight in this 200, the automatic climate control, which is rarely ordered in this model, can be mentioned. All equipment elements as well as all switches, levers and displays in the interior must be certified as in perfect condition.
Approx, 94,500 km is the W123 driven. The speedometer still shows a slightly older Km-stand, because the W123 has been moved in the meantime once again for longer vacation trips, always without problems and reliably. Due to the abundant history of this car, the total mileage of the Mercedes-Benz can be proven beyond doubt. Among the available documents are on the one hand the complete on-board folder with service booklet and on the other hand many former invoices and MOT reports of the last years. In addition, there is an owner's manual and various contemporary brochures and price lists for the W 123.
The 2.0-litre carburetor engine of this Mercedes-Benz delivers 109 hp, the gears are engaged via a 5-speed manual transmission, which was subject to a surcharge at the time. According to the current owner, the vehicle drives flawlessly. In October 2021, this 200 received a major inspection with replacement of all liquids, filters and spark plugs. The compressor from the automatic climate control system was replaced by a new part in February 2022.
On the underbody, in the wheel arches and in the engine compartment of the Mercedes-Benz W 123 200, the original factory sealing can even be seen. Damage or rust (apart from rust) on the underside of the car cannot be enumerated.
Extensive documents on the Mercedes are also available.
