Vehicle description
Although a Porsche 964 hardly differs visually from its predecessor apart from a few touch-ups, 85 percent of the parts have changed. The fact that the front bumpers are now better integrated into the body is probably the most striking distinguishing feature. The evolution - in the third generation of the 911, presented in 1988, took place behind the scenes: For the first time, there is power steering and an anti-lock braking system, and the new 911 now rolls on a newly designed chassis with coil springs instead of torsion bars. And, of course, Porsche also delivers more power: the boxer engine has new cylinders, new pistons, an optimized crankshaft and larger valves; its displacement is exactly 3600 cubic meters. All-wheel drive gave the 911 more traction; the engine power of a Carrera 4 is distributed to the front and rear wheels in a power ratio of 31 to 69 percent, with the electronically controlled distribution varying depending on the surface.
One such all-wheel-drive Porsche from the 964 series is now being offered in this auction: It is a Porsche 964 Carrera 4 Cabriolet in turbo look from the year 1990 from third party ownership. The owner is not sure in which country the 964 was first registered, but presumably in Germany. According to the information available to us, the vehicle was temporarily registered in Great Britain and was then re-imported to Germany. The left-hand drive Cabriolet was subsequently given the turbo look and has the chassis number WPOZZZ96ZLS420830. The Carrera 4 has a partially maintained checkbook, the history can also be documented by invoices and TÜV reports. The Porsche 964 comes with 2 keys and has "Matching Numbers", an expert opinion, an H-approval and TÜV until May 2022.
Apart from the distinctive turbo look, this 964 is in modification-free condition, the rare paint color called "Violet Blue Metallic" has been completely renewed. The paintwork is in extremely good condition, there are apparently no defects to complain about, the gap dimensions are correct and the paintwork is uniform. The soft top is in crack-free condition, it is tight and can also be closed carefully, and the soft top electrics work perfectly. It should be noted that only the locking mechanism is electric; the roof is opened manually. The conversion with its extensions was carried out properly and appears to have been carefully finished.
Mounted are Speedline aluminum rims in very good condition, which are covered with tires that, according to the owner, are still 70% of their new condition, the brakes are new and the chassis has not been modified, it is still in its original condition.
The interior of this 964 Carrera 4 Cabrio features gray full leather and no damage such as torn or chafed seat bolsters, cracks in the dashboard or worn switches and buttons. The 911 is equipped with power steering, central locking, electric windows, heated seats, air conditioning, cruise control and a radio. All interior features are fully functional and ensure a comfortable ride.
A glance at the classic round instruments shows the mileage: the speedometer indicates a total mileage of 179,797 kilometers, which is documented by the partially maintained checkbook. It should be noted at this point that this 964 Carrera 4 Cabriolet is in excellent condition for the mileage, which speaks for the caring way in which the owners have treated this Porsche. All instruments are in perfect working order.
After consultation with the owner, there is only a defective fan heater to mention in the technical area. The hydraulic pump has recently been repaired and a service was carried out in May 2021. The 250 hp 3.6-liter boxer engine with dual ignition provides sufficient driving pleasure, which is further enhanced by the 5-speed manual gearbox. Like the gearbox, the engine has no faults and runs cleanly; looking at the engine compartment, you would hardly guess the total mileage of this 964.
A restoration was carried out on the underbody, which according to the owner is now in good condition and well preserved, and all defects on the underside of the Carrera 4 have been rectified.
