Vehicle description
The company Morris Garage – better known by the abbreviation MG – was founded in 1923 and a year later their first car came onto the market, which bore the name MG. One of the best-known models of the MG brand in America and especially in Europe is the so-called MGB. First presented as an open-top roadster in 1962, a two-door coupé called GT with a tin roof was added in 1965. In both versions it became one of the most successful cars in its class and together with the models MGB GT V8 and MG C over 500,000 copies were built in 18 years. In 1974, the MGB was adapted to the American safety regulations and got, among other things, rubber lips on the bumpers.
In this auction it is possible to purchase an MGB from the year of construction 1979. Originally, the British roadster with the chassis number GHN5UL494280G comes from America, where it was first registered in June 1979 – over the years it was then imported to Germany. The current seller is not sure how many holders the MGB has in total. 2 vehicle keys still exist, a history of the car is not available. The MG already has an H approval, the TÜV is done according to the seller before the handover. Worth mentioning are the given matching numbers.
The body colour of the MGB Roadster is bright yellow: the exact colour is called "Inca yellow". The seller mentions that minor dents and scratches that have accumulated on the exterior over the years have prompted him to completely disassemble the MGB and repaint it in its original color. In the course of assembly, all seals were renewed. Now this British roadster is in very good condition without damage. The chrome and the trim elements around the body are completely present, the black soft top is just as crack-free as the plastic rear windows. An accident excludes the current owner in his possession.
The tyres are in good condition: The tyres are mounted on original MG steel sweeps in acceptable condition. In terms of brakes, no serious deficits are apparent, in the area of the chassis no modifications deviating from the original condition can be found.
When reassembling after the fresh paintwork, parts of the interior were also taken care of: the dashboard has been reconditioned and a new three-spoke leather steering wheel has also been granted to the MGB. The black imitation leather seats show no signs of wear, the upholstery is completely intact. To enjoy the sun and the fresh air, you only have to open the soft top: the function of the mechanical hood is given without complaints. Features of this MGB include: vent windows, crank windows and an accessory radio. There is no damage or modification in the interior of the roadster.
In the cockpit is the rev counter on the left, the speed display in MPH and km/h on the right: The five-digit speedometer shows a mileage of 98,200 miles, which would correspond to about 158,000 in kilometers. Although no history is known about the traceability of the total mileage, it seems credible in view of the good overall impression of the MGB. All instruments in the interior perform their service perfectly.
The 1.8-liter in-line four-cylinder engine appears visually clean after opening the bonnet. With good treatment, the four-cylinder engines of the MGB are considered extremely robust. Via a 4-speed manual transmission, the power of 67 hp is transmitted to the rear wheels. The seller mentions that a new service will be done before the handover to the new owner. There are no current defects in the powertrain.
A glance at the underbody of the MGB Roadster provides a clear conscience: wildly flowering rust nests or improperly carried out repairs cannot be found on the underside of the car.

Comments of this past auction
