Model history
When Porsche presented the 911 Targa at the International Motor Show in Frankfurt am Main in the fall of 1965, hardly anyone could have guessed that this model designation would become a permanent fixture in Porsche history. Until 1967, the rear window of the original version of the Targa was not made of safety glass, but of an opening soft window with a flexible plastic pane. Only then was a glass pane used. From 1973, the Targa was also available in the so-called G-model alongside the classic Coupé.
