Vehicle description
The Success Story of the Bertone began with the Giulia Sprint GT presented to the press in 1963 and later at the IAA in Frankfurt. Many variants were to follow: As displacement classes, there was a large selection from the 1.3-liter to 1.6-liter to the 1.75-liter and 2.0-liter in-line four-cylinder. In January 1968, the 1750 GT Veloce was introduced, which developed into the Series 2 in 1969 and was the first Bertone with double headlights and without edge hood. It then had, for example, bumpers with horns and larger taillights. Changes in the interior of the Bertone affected the seats, dashboard and steering wheel. Opinions differ on the quantities: some speak of a good 30,000 copies, others of just over 40,000 units.
Now in this auction an Alfa Romeo 1750 GTV Bertone from the year of construction 1968 can be bought, which was first registered in Italy – more precisely in Alessandria – came to Austria over the years and still has 2 owners today. A history of the Alfa Romeo with the chassis number AR1357252 is available, as in addition to various documents, there is also a complete checkbook for the car. Furthermore, according to the seller, there are still 2 vehicle keys to the Bertone and the last completed TÜV is valid until August 2024. The 1750 GTV is already in possession of an H approval, matching numbers are given. What is particularly relevant about this Alfa Romeo offered is that it is a vehicle from the very rare and sought-after first series of the Type 105. The detailed certificate from 2017 from the ASI (Automoto Club Storico Italiano) confirms that the vehicle has historical significance and is a collector's item.
A colour called "Verde Muschio" adorns the shapely body of this coupé. Repainting is not known to the current owner, even defects are not to be enumerated according to this, since the exterior with all its attachments is in an impeccable state of preservation according to the seller. Corrosion is sought in vain with this Bertone, in addition, no external modifications deviating from the original condition can be objected to. The "Scudetto" in the radiator grille is framed by 2 headlights on the left and right, which are characteristic of the 1750 GTV. Furthermore, the 1750 GTV was the first Bertone without an edge hood, accordingly the front is smoothed.
Original and in very good condition are the steel rims on the Alfa Romeo Bertone, on which tires are mounted in good condition according to the seller. Also in good condition is the brake system with four disc brakes. In terms of chassis technology, no deficits can apparently be taken from this vehicle.
The interior is decorated in brown to match the colour of the exterior, which in addition to Skai artificial leather seats also has brown Skai artificial leather door panels. Classically black is the dashboard including the frame of the center console, as a driver you reach for a 3-spoke wooden steering wheel, which shows itself without signs of use. In general, there is no damage to be found in the interior of the Alfa Romeo 1750 GTV Bertone, which could cloud the perfect state of preservation. The windows are operated by chrome hand cranks, a contemporary radio is to be mentioned as a feature of this Bertone. All displays, instruments and controls can be attributed a flawless function.
The 2 round instruments, which are arranged in the middle of the driver's cockpit, are set in chrome and clearly read: About 93,000 kilometers can be read on the 5-digit speedometer. The total mileage can be proven beyond doubt by a complete service booklet as well as by existing documents, receipts and previous invoices.
The in-line four-cylinder engine, which has 2 overhead camshafts and wet liners, is made of light metal: In the 1750 GTV Bertone, it generates 114 hp from a displacement of 1.75 litres – this power is transmitted to the road via a 5-speed manual transmission via the rear axle. In April 2021, the last service work took place, according to the seller, there are currently no defects in the technology. The seller states that after his purchase in the last two years he has invested around 7,000 € in the engine, the brakes, the handbrake and are therefore in very good condition.
The condition of the subfloor can be described as very good. A Bertone represents an all-round harmonious coupé: active driving, elegant and easily suitable for everyday use. That's why an Alfa Romeo Bertone is so popular as a classic. Anyone who has ever driven an Alfa Romeo Bertone can't get the characteristic Alfa engine sound out of their heads. With this 1750 GTV offered for auction here, the future owner secures an Alfa par excellence in complete original condition with a completely traceable maintenance history in a suitable colour combination.
