Model history

The Mercedes-Benz R 107 was produced from 1971 to 1989 and is one of the brand's most successful roadsters. Over the years, the model underwent numerous technical modifications, particularly in terms of performance, engine capacity and environmental requirements. A comprehensive model update took place in 1985, when the R 107 was available for the first time with an optional catalytic converter, which became standard in 1986 and was mandatory from 1989. Vehicles without a catalytic converter could no longer be delivered from this point onwards, although the so-called RÜF versions (retrofit vehicles) were an exception, as their catalytic converter could be removed if necessary. Production of the R 107 ended in Sindelfingen in 1989, while its successor, the R 129, was manufactured in Bremen from the same year.
