Model history

The Chevrolet Chevelle was launched in 1964 as a versatile mid-size model on the GM A-Body platform and was built in three generations until 1977. It was available as a coupé, saloon, convertible and estate. The "Super Sport" variants were popular until 1973, followed by the "Laguna" series (1973-1976). In 1964, the El Camino returned to the Chevelle family. In Canada, there was the Pontiac-styled Beaumont (1964-1969), and the Monte Carlo (from 1970) used a similar base. The "Malibu" led the range until 1972 and took over the Chevelle name in 1978 after a model revision. The top of the Chevelle range was formed by the SS models with enormously powerful V8 engines.
