Description

Model history:

Railton was a British manufacturer owned by Sir Noel Macklin. The production facility was located near London. Railton was the first sports car to combine British elegance and American chassis technology. The name Railton comes from the designer and famous British racing driver Reid Railton. The first Railton was introduced in 1933, the Railton Eight. Due to the moderate pricing and its very good performance, the Railton quickly made a good name for itself and was able to hold its own against competing brands. By 1936, over 900 vehicles had been sold. Macklin wanted to trump the previous success and launched the Railton Light Sports in 1935. In its time, it was considered the car with the highest acceleration. The Light Sport has a low mass of just under 1000kg and thus achieves phenomenal acceleration and speed values compared to its predecessor. Due to its high sales value, the model could not prevail against the competition and only a few models left the workshop. Production was discontinued in 1939.

General information about the vehicle:

The pre-war racing sports car offered here is a Railton light sports, which was registered in 1938. Since then, the vehicle has had four owners and has been driven accident-free in its current ownership. The Railton is an import from England. Typical for the country, the car is a right-hand drive. The roadster has the so-called matching numbers and has the VIN E743348. Currently, the vehicle is registered, roadworthy and has an H license plate. In addition, a restoration was carried out. There is no checkbook and currently no valid TÜV available.

Exterior paint/paint/body:

The two-seater is particularly striking due to its special and open body.

The Railton is black from the outside. The matt paint gives the car a classy look. Repainting cannot be ruled out, as the current owner does not have any information about this. On the back there is a white lettering "Chopard" on the left and right. You can use the photos in the gallery to get an idea of the Railton.

Exterior rims/brakes/chassis:

The spoke rims are classically elegant in silver and underline the sporty look of the classic car. Dunlop-Racing tires are mounted on the rims. The condition of the tires is estimated by the owner at 30-50%. Furthermore, the condition of the brakes is given between 70-90%.

Interior:

The interior features black leather seats. As usual with sports cars, no additional equipment can be found. Some additional measuring instruments are installed for this purpose. The rear-view mirror is located in the middle of the dashboard due to the special windshield. In addition, the roadster comes with a matching tarpaulin. For a detailed insight into the car, we refer to the other photos.

Mileage:

The speedometer on the passenger side shows a mileage of 21607 miles. This value corresponds to the mileage since the complete restoration and overhaul. The car does not have a checkbook. According to the owner, the instruments work without any problems. In addition to the normal speedometer instruments, there are also various rally watches and timepieces installed.

Engine:

The Railton comes with an eight-cylinder in-line engine. Thanks to its lightweight construction and 160 hp output, the sports car quickly gets going. The manual gearshift is located on the right side on the outside of the body. The pre-war car received its last service on 04/2023.

Subsoil:

The underside of the car, as shown in the photos, is in a rust-free condition. Pending repairs or elimination of defects are not known.

Who is this car for?

In conclusion, all that remains to be said is that there is an opportunity here to acquire a special racing car. Racing enthusiasts and roadster fans from the pre-war category will have a lot of fun with the Railton sports light.
