The introduction of the VW Beetle Cabriolet in 1949 as a convertible version of the popular VW Beetle proved to be a great success, with over 330,000 units produced. However, 1975 marked the end of German production of the Beetle Cabriolet, while production in Mexico continued until 1980.
As a symbol of the economic miracle in Germany, the VW Beetle Convertible became a cult car and a sought-after collector's item.
