Vehicle description
Model history:
In 1959, the W 111 replaced the large pontoon models of the W 180 series. The Mercedes-Benz of the W 111 model series, which enthusiasts also like to refer to as the "large (tail) fin", offered a passive safety hitherto unknown to another: for the first time in the world, the safety body developed by Daimler-Benz was used here. In 1961, Mercedes-Benz expanded the model series to include a coupé, among other things. These so-called SE Coupés were the last Mercedes largely handmade, so the price was almost twice as high as that of the sedans. Although the coupé is based on the uncut sedan chassis, no sheet metal part is identical.
General information about the vehicle:
Now a 280 SE 3.5 Coupé built in 1971 is being auctioned off in this auction, which has already been partially restored. This stately Mercedes-Benz coupé with chassis number 11102612003073000 was first registered in January 1971. According to the seller, no history is known for the vehicle. Only that the previous owner bought the vehicle in Sweden at the time. According to the seller, the car is perfectly roadworthy, already has an H-approval and fresh TÜV.
Exterior colour/varnish/body:
After consultation with the current owner, the paint of this Mercedes-Benz W 111 - which has a gold shade - is well preserved and all trim elements on the body can be found in complete condition. In addition, the chrome on the exterior impresses with its shiny condition. The seller can rule out an accident in his possession. On the whole, the exterior of the 280 SE 3.5 Coupé presents itself in its original condition without modifications - only a wind deflector has been attached to the roof in front of the sunroof over the years.
Exterior rims/brakes/chassis:
The wheel caps of the Mercedes-Benz in the body colour ensure a fitting overall visual appearance - these are mounted on original steel rims, on which in turn tyres with apparently sufficient tread are mounted. In the area of the chassis, just as few inconsistencies can be detected as in the area of the brake system.
Interior:
If you open the mighty doors of this 280 SE 3.5 Coupé, you will discover black leather seats, which are framed by opulent decorative elements such as chrome and wood trim. In addition to the power steering, central locking, electric windows and air conditioning, the equipment highlight of this Mercedes-Benz is definitely the original steel sunroof, which can also be easily opened and closed. According to the seller, a Becker Mexico radio with Bluetooth, navigation system and sound system was retrofitted over the years (value according to the current holder about 2,500 €). The interior is attributed to the current owner a well-groomed condition, gross defects can obviously not be recognized.
Mileage
All instruments, displays and controls are full function after consultation with the current owner, we do not have an exact indication of the total mileage of the coupé.
Engine
Under the bonnet of this Mercedes-Benz coupé works a 3.5-liter V8, which transmits 200 hp via a 4-speed automatic transmission to the rear wheels. The seller mentions that the engine has been overhauled and runs accordingly clean. Among other things, new pistons were installed.
Subsoil:
In view of the age of the vehicle, the newly illuminated and sealed underbody of the 280 SE 3.5 Coupé can be described as extremely good. Stately size, lots of chrome and noticeable quality in every component are just a few of the many points that a Mercedes-Benz Coupé of the W 111 model series has. The eight-cylinder engine harmonizes well with the automatic transmission and always ensures plenty of torque. This Mercedes-Benz Coupé from 1971 offered here - radiant in gold - convinces according to sellers by its extremely good condition, the overhauled engine, as well as the rich equipment.
