Vehicle description
From the mid-1940s, the Triumph brand belonged to the Standard Motor Company, which had existed since 1903, and had a good reputation for its successful sports cars, including the TR2 created in 1950, which was followed in 1955 by the so-called TR3. The TR3 was the first British production car ever to be equipped with disc brakes on the front wheels. Especially in the USA, the new Triumph marketed itself quite well, which is why a large part of the models could be sold on the local market and the designation "TR3A" established itself – of which the "A" stood for America. In 1957, the TR3 was visually revised. In total, Triumph built more than 70,000 units of the TR3.
Now there is the possibility to buy a Triumph TR3A from the year of construction 1960, which was originally delivered to the USA and came over the years to Germany. The history – which consists of partially existing invoices and former TÜV reports – shows that the roadster with the chassis number TS46099L has only 2 holders, of which the last owner was allowed to call the car his own for more than 20 years. In addition to 3 ignition keys, the TR3 also comes with 2 trunk keys and 1 radio key for an alarm system. An H approval already ennobles this TR3A and the last TÜV completed is valid until April 2024. Whether matching numbers are given, the current owner can not say – but it is assumed. Also worth mentioning is an existing report on the Triumph, which was carried out as a "short check" and certified the TR3A in May 2020 a market value of € 32,500.
Externally, the Triumph TR3, which was revised from 1957 onwards, differed from the previous years of construction by a new, wider radiator grille and door handles on the outside. Of course, these characteristics can also be found in this TR3 from 1960 and held in "British racing green". According to the seller, there are no repaints on the body, which is why there are also a few slight paint damages to the body over the years. According to seller statements, a hinge of the bonnet should be a bit loose and the chrome on the fuel cap shows some signs of aging. As a modification to the exterior, the current holder specifies chrome-plated headlight grilles and auxiliary headlights from Lucas. The black soft top is apparently in mint condition.
The tr3A's visual appearance is ensured by chrome-plated spoke wheels with wing nuts, on which tyres in good condition with sufficient tread are mounted. According to the current TÜV report, there is no serious defect in the brakes and the chassis also presents itself in a good and original condition.
The interior of the Triumph TR3A has a sporty cut: the full leather seats are in acceptable condition and the interior can also be said to be good in accordance with the age of the vehicle. As a defect in the interior, the seller indicates the loosening footwell carpet, furthermore, the lockable glove compartment is additionally stabilized with a rope. The following features have been installed on board this Triumph: anti-theft warning system, GPS transmitter, Tripmaster "Terratrip 101", fire extinguisher under the passenger seat, electronic ventilation and seat belts. A new tarpaulin is included with the car.
This TR3A has 36,140 miles – the equivalent of about 58,150 kilometers – on the odometer. According to the seller, this mileage can be approximated by the available documents. Except for the double oil pressure indicator, all instruments in the interior of the TR3A work without any problems.
90 hp is produced by the 2.0-liter in-line four-cylinder engine, which has 2 inclined flow carburetors, which in turn have been equipped with open air filters from K&N. Furthermore, the battery has a circuit breaker. In April 2022, this Triumph underwent a final maintenance, according to the seller, the roadster drives very well and was regularly used in classic car rallies.
On the underbody of the vehicle, a good condition is recognizable. In addition to the MGB Convertible, the manufacturer Triumph with its various TR models is the epitome of the British roadster feeling: This TR3A convinces with its good state of preservation - you can see this triumph that the 2 previous owners have treated the car with care and have equipped it with some technical features. Especially for classic car rallies, the TR3A offered in this auction is a good companion, in which the soft top can remain open permanently in good weather to fully enjoy the feeling of the British roadster.

Many papers, invoices and proofs are available with this TR3A, which makes it an absolutely stable classic that has great potential in the future.
