Vehicle description

Bentley's first luxury car of the post-war period was the so-called Mark VI, which was introduced in 1946. In addition, the Mark VI was the first Bentley model to be delivered ex works as a complete vehicle – i.e. with a factory body. Bentley Motors had been owned by Rolls Royce since 1931. However, they kept their own brand name. The Bentley Mark VI is the first vehicle to be identical to the Rolls Royce. Bentley also continued the tradition of offering its chassis-shaped model to external coachbuilders, but the Mark VI was the last car to be offered in this way. The drive was an in-line six-cylinder, which had the intake valves in the cylinder head and the exhaust valves arranged laterally in the block. For the time, the Bentley Mark VI offered impressive driving values, the production of the model continued until 1952.

The Bentley offered here from the year of construction 1947 is a Mark VI special, which comes as intended from England and came over the years to Germany. The first owner was Mrs. Edward Lumley & Sons Ltd - the largest and oldest insurance company in Lyoyd's of London at the time. The Bentley has a total of 5 owners, the history of the car can be traced according to the seller. It became exciting, afterwards. Rebuilt in London in 1980 as a Bentley Special in the form of a Bentley 4 1/4-Litre Drophead Coupe – as built in H.J Mulliner from 1936-1939 in Derby. After that, the vehicle was shipped to California and in 1998 back to Germany, to Heidelberg. In addition to 2 vehicle keys, this Mark VI Special has a FIVA card, matching numbers, an expert opinion and an H approval. The last completed general inspection is valid until March 2024.

A little more directly from the seller: "The vehicle is a 'garage find' from 2012. In my neighboring house in the middle of the city in the Görresstraße Heidelberg is a garage that I have not noticed so far (10 years). The garage was overgrown and unrecognizable. Only by a hint from a neighbor I opened the garage and found the car. It was parked there in 1997 by its owner, who emigrated to Canada. Via Facebook I was able to locate it and was able to purchase the vehicle From the series Mark VI a total of 5202 vehicles were built. 4190 with body and 1012 only with chassis. During this time, there was the profession of car manufacturer and the coachbuilder. At that time selling price 2595.00 pounds".

The Bentley was only converted into a special in 1976, of course various repaints were used in the course of the now over 70-year-old Mark VI. On the exterior, the special has a two-tone lacquer: black and red. In terms of bodywork, the car can be attested to a very good condition for the age, the seller notes that normal stress in the door folds is visible, but the Mark VI is mostly in clean condition. The beige soft top is also in clean condition: Neither cracks nor other damage can be removed from the folding top. All add-on parts and chrome trim elements on the vehicle are fully present and in good condition. An accident in the current possession can exclude the current owner.

Whitewall tyres, together with the original rims, provide the exterior appearance of the Bentley. According to the seller, the tires have only 6,000 kilometers down, the steel rims with hubcaps in body color are preserved in curb-scratch-free condition. No complaints can be taken from the brake system, in the area of the chassis no deficits cloud the well-maintained condition.

Attention to detail can be discovered in the interior of the Bentley: for example, a "B" for Bentley can be found on the pedals in the driver's footwell and all handles in the interior are extremely finely crafted. On the right side sits the steering wheel, the driver and passengers take a seat on beige – thickly padded – full leather seats. On the whole, only traces of patina can be detected in the interior of the Bentley, rough traces of use or even missing parts are not present inside the car. In 2014, a renewal of the plug-in windows took place, which were then used only 2 times after consultation with the seller and are therefore in perfect condition. As equipment there is a Halda Tripmaster in the cockpit of this Mark VI Special.

A real dashboard is the wooden cockpit of the Bentley: Various black round instruments inform the driver about important information about the vehicle. The seller has it mentioned that the speedometer has stopped at 53,000 miles and the fuel gauge hangs from time to time. A new water thermometer was installed.

"25-liter displacement generates the in-line six-cylinder in the bow of the Bentley a whopping 126 hp. It is the first engine installed, which at that time was identical to the engine of the Rolls-Royce. The individual gears are engaged via a 4-speed gearbox. Last repaired: clutch (2013) and ball bearing in differential (2020). The Bentley was last inspected in 2021, and the valves were discontinued in 2022. Due to the fact that the engine was identical to the Rolls-Royce, it is easy to get spare parts.Given the age of the vehicle in impressive condition, the underbody condition of this Bentley presents itself.
This Bentley is a moving time capsule that has been put back on the road after the garage was found. A vehicle with a fabulous history and an impressive previous owner who has made it his mission to do with the Bentley what it was built for – driving! With this Mark VI you drive a piece of automotive history, which was also one of the most luxurious automobiles that existed until then. In addition, the current owner notes that this special is also suitable for everyday use without any problems and the spare parts situation is easily secured by competent companies. In the condition in which this car stands here, probably the next 70 years can easily be taken under the wheels.
