The Porsche 911, produced from 1964, quickly established itself as a luxury sports car icon with a rear engine and air cooling. Its suitability for motorsport was impressively demonstrated by numerous victories, including successes for the 935 variant at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Built until 1989, the 911 is considered one of the most successful sports cars of its time and was replaced by the Porsche 964.

Technik: Der Porsche 911, kurz auch Neunelfer oder nur Elfer genannt, ist der bekannteste Sportwagen von Porsche und gilt als Inbegriff der Marke. Die neueste Modellreihe 992 ist seit 2019 erhältlich. Der erste 911 wurde am 12. September 1963 auf der IAA in Frankfurt am Main als Nachfolger des Porsche 356 mit der Bezeichnung Porsche 901 vorgestellt. Da dreistellige Zahlen mit einer Null in der Mitte von Peugeot als Typ-Bezeichnung geschützt waren, kam der Wagen im Jahr 1964 als Porsche 911 auf den Markt. Der Wagen ist ein typischer 2+2-Sitzer mit zwei Sitzen und zwei Notsitzen. Angetrieben wird er von einem 6-Zylinder-Boxermotor im Heck. Mit der Heckmotor Bauweise führt der 911 ein klassisches Konstruktionsprinzip fort, das sich bereits bei früheren Porsche-Entwicklungen findet, beispielsweise beim VW Käfer und beim Porsche 356. Der Porsche 911 hat in der Regel einen Heckantrieb; seit 1989 werden auch Fahrzeuge mit Allradantrieb (Carrera 4) angeboten. Spitzenmodell ist seit 1974 der mit einem Turbomotor ausgestattete 911 Turbo. Seit 1995 wurde darüber hinaus der 911 GT2, eine Gewichts-optimierte und Leistungs-gesteigerte Version des 911 Turbo, in einer Kleinserie produziert.
