The others were fashionable, a Mercedes had to be modern and timeless - but even for this claim, a construction period of 18 years is unusually long. The SL models of the R107 model series made it. However, there was no doubt that the R107 marked the beginning of a new world of SL driving: a modern semi-trailing arm design replaced the old-fashioned rear swing axle. And: for the first time, there was an SL with an eight-cylinder engine.
