Vehicle description
Model history:
The 300 was considered the first German representative limousine after the Second World War. The vehicle is considered to be in the luxury class, and after the first German Chancellor Konrad Adenauer chose the model as his official car, the name "Adenauer-Mercedes" became established for the W 186-300. At the time, the 300 was the largest series-produced German vehicle and was considered the German state limousine par excellence. Many heads of state of other countries and many a prominent personality also used the luxury car. The Mercedes-Benz W 189 was the successor to the 300 c (W 186/IV) and was produced from November 1957. As an innovation, the side windows could be completely recessed and the rear corner window removed. The lack of side pillars gave rise to the novel term hardtop sedan for Germany. As the first model of the manufacturer Mercedes the W 189 got the engine M 189 with intake manifold injection and against surcharge for the first time an air conditioning system. Its lighter weight made the car much more agile than its predecessors. With the introduction of the Mercedes-Benz 600 (W 100) in 1964, the 300 was then replaced as a state limousine.
