Vehicle description
The BMW E39 5 Series was already a true gem at its launch in 1995, with the 540i at the top end of the flagpole. However, those who wanted to go one better in terms of performance and exclusivity found their luck in the noble tuner Alpina from 1997 onwards. For a not inconsiderable cost surcharge to the 540i you got an Alpina B10 V8. Produced between 1997 and 2002, there were two power variants, with (1997-1998) 340 hp and (1998 – 2002) 347 hp, whereby Alpina categorizes the vehicles from year of construction 2000 again separately and indicates faster acceleration values.
For auction here is the production number 31 of 201 sedans, built in 2001 and thus the last production before Alpina produced the V8 S. The vehicle was imported from Japan and has a read mileage of 75,100 km, plus three keys. The first registration took place on 15.06.2001, due to the later registration in Germany, the number of owners can no longer be clearly understood. (No previous owners are included in the German vehicle registration document before the German registration.) Expert opinions and H-approval are not available, but matching numbers and the TÜV badge are renewed upon purchase.
The exclusive redesign of the BMW 5 Series also includes Alpina's own paintwork, in this case "Dark Aphier Blue Metallic". Above it, the Alpina vehicle was decorated with silver accent stripes and its own lettering. The sportiness of this sedan was also well emphasized, including extensive adjustments to the body and a rear spoiler with integrated third brake light. Although the tailgate has been repainted, the current owner states that the car is accident-free during the period of its attitude. In addition, no defects in the exterior are to be complained about.
The shiny 19-inch Alpina alloy wheels catch the eye. They are in their original condition without any quirks. The tires are from the brand Pirelli have according to the owner still a residual tread depth of 5mm. The brakes, as well as the chassis installed by Alpina, are in good condition, according to the seller.
In the interior we find black fabric seats with Alpina stripe décor and matching floor mats. In addition, all sorts of equipment, such as sports steering wheel and seats, a hi-fi speaker system and CD changer on the radio as well as xenon burners in the headlights. In addition, there is electronic damper control, multifunction on the steering wheel, electrically adjustable mirrors, cruise control and an on-board computer with a large display in the centre console. The whole thing is rounded off by an automatic climate control and elm wood. The steering wheel has traces of use corresponding to the mileage, but the rest in the interior is well maintained. According to the owner, all Alpina equipment is in its original condition and functional.
The cockpit was also tackled by Alpina, the speedometer instruments were highlighted in blue and the speed display was extended to 330 km/h. The 75,000 km are well documented by invoices and for the mileage the vehicle, in general, makes a very good impression. According to the seller, all instruments are also functional in the speedometer.
The heart of the B10 V8 is, of course, its engine extended to 4.6 liters of displacement. After technical improvement on the part of Alpina, this delivers a whopping 347 hp and 480 Nm of torque. In the sprint to 100 km/h, the factory specification for this sedan was 5.5 seconds. Unlike the normal 5 Series, the Alpina had a Switchtronic transmission that could be shifted from the steering wheel, as you know it from modern cars. The last service is also up-to-date in June 2022, and no defects were found.
Under the vehicle, the pictures show a solid condition, for age and mileage of the Alpina. The exhaust system is intact and not rusted through. Also otherwise no strong rust spots can be found. All in all, this Alpina B10 V8 is in very good condition if you want, you can also have original alpina documents for the production of this vehicle issued after purchase. So if you still have some space in the garage and a good sense of exclusivity, you should join the auction.
