Vehicle description
Ducati Monster S4
Model History
Ducati is an Italian manufacturer of motorcycles from Bologna, which mainly inspires its customers with sporty models. The company was founded as early as 1926, but only produced engines from 1946 and its own vehicles from 1953. Milestones in the company's history were the development of pioneering motorcycles such as the 750, the Paso and the 851, with Ducati celebrating successes in various racing series from the 1970s onwards. In 1993, the first Monster was developed in Bologna, designed as a naked bike to complete the Italian manufacturer's product range. The performance of the sporty motorcycles increased continuously in the early years and reached a temporary peak with the S4 series in the 2000s. The motorcycle received a water-cooled four-valve engine for the first time in the company's history, ushering in an era at Ducati that lasted until 2008 and began again 10 years later.
General information about the vehicle:
In this auction, a Ducati Monster S4 can be purchased that was produced in Bologna in 2001. The motorcycle with the VIN ZDMM400AA1B005970 was first registered in the same year and has been owned by three different owners over the last 20 years. The history of the powerful S4 can be partially substantiated, but the checkbook is missing, so no reliable statement can be made about matching numbers. It is known that the shapely naked bike already had accident damage, nevertheless the partially restored motorcycle is in good condition and is equipped with an MOT sticker until April 2023. The Monster is unrestricted ready to ride and registered, so it can be handed over to the future owner for immediate rides with the original key set.
Exterior Color/Paint/Body
The Ducati Monster S4 is presented in a racy dark green paint job that perfectly underscores the character of this powerful machine. The paint was partially renewed in the course of the restoration, but minor scratches and slight dents on the tank still remain. The bodywork has been refurbished to its original condition and otherwise has no dents or noticeable rust, resulting in a very pleasing overall appearance.
Exterior Rims/Brakes/Suspension
The Ducati Monster is fitted with matching Marchesini 5-spoke rims and uses Michelin wheels to get around. The tires are in good to excellent condition, as well as the Brembo brakes were found to be in full working order at the last service.
Thechassis has remained unchanged since the bike was first put into service, so the typical look of the S4 has been retained.
Interior:
The Monster S4 looks very authentic with its carbon look seat, especially since all other equipment components such as mudguards and side covers have a similar color scheme in anthracite. Super Grip handlebar grips have been fitted for safe control of the motorcycle, and all the displays and controls appear carefully maintained. The windshield appears clear and has no noticeable scratches, and all information on the speedometer and tachometer is also easy to see. No damage could be detected on the equipment elements, while the age-related signs of use give the Ducati an authentic character.
Mileage:
The Monster S4 has covered just over 24,000 kilometers in its history, as can be read off the speedometer dial and traced on the basis of the available documents. All instruments and controls showed no abnormalities during the inspection, and it can also be assumed that all displays are in working order.
Engine:
The Ducati Monster S4 is equipped with a powerful Desmoquattro V2 four-stroke engine, which generates a power of 101 hp (74 KW) with a displacement of 916 cc. For transmission, the naked bike uses a 6-speed manual gearbox that allows the motorcycle to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.2 seconds and reach a top speed of up to 234 km/h.
Thelast service on the Ducati Monster was carried out in May 2022, and no restrictions were found on the engine and technical components.
Underbody:
Frame, suspensions and shock absorbers of the Ducati Monster S4 are in good to very good condition, as are the technical components. The Termignoni exhaust system is also fully functional, but slight signs of corrosion are visible, especially on the manifold.
Documents:
A checkbook to the offered Ducati Monster S4 is unfortunately no longer available, but the history can be traced well on the basis of invoices and other documents. All necessary documents are provided upon delivery of the motorcycle, in addition to the German vehicle registration document, there is also the Italian version provided upon initial registration.
For whom is this motorcycle intended?
The Ducati Monster is particularly suitable for friends of Italian motorcycles, for whom a high engine is important, but who do not want a full fairing on their machine. At the time of its presentation, the S4 was the most powerful motorcycle in this model range. With its beefy tank, it looked particularly authentic and the new engine has given it greater riding stability. The increased power makes this monster generation particularly attractive, while the optimized handling characteristics mean that the naked bike has lost none of its fascination to this day.

Comments of this past auction
