The sportiest variant and thus the top version of the Chevrolet Corvette Generation C5 is the so-called Z06: Larger intake and exhaust ports, a sharper camshaft with more valve lift and a titanium exhaust system are, among other things, the newly developed unit components of the LS6 engine. This revised LS6 engine can be identified with red valve covers and represents an optimization of the LS1 engine of the base model. Initially, the LS6 engine makes a whopping 385 hp at 6,000 rpm and 522 Newton meters at 4,200 rpm for model year 2001. In 2002, the V8 then strengthened to 405 hp and 542 Newton meters at 4,800 rpm.
