From 2001 to 2006, BMW launched several hatchback models of the Mini, including the standard Mini One, the diesel Mini One/D, the sporty Mini Cooper and the high-performance Mini Cooper S. The Cooper and Cooper S designations represented the sportier variants of the classic Mini, in conjunction with the involvement of John Cooper and the Cooper Car Company. The sporty tradition was emphasized by the John Cooper Works (JCW) tuning options, and the company also created the Mini Cooper S Works with a more powerful exhaust system, air filter, upgraded brakes, suspension and special 17-inch wheels.
