Vehicle description

Model history:

The Fiat 124 is one of the most successful automobile models and the most frequently produced vehicle in the world after the VW Beetle. The sedan was first introduced by the traditional Turin-based company in 1966 and was named European Car of the Year a year later. At the same time, the Fiat 124 Spider was created on this basis, although it was visually quite different from its sister model. The sports car fascinated with its effervescence and was given a characteristic look with rounded forms that had been brought to life at Pininfarina. Right from the start, the dynamic roadster had a more powerful engine than the standard version and was produced with many minor modifications until the mid-1980s.

General information about the car:

This auction offers a red Fiat 124 Spider from 1978, which, following its production, arrived in the United States as an export vehicle. It was registered there for the first time and has been owned by a total of three owners since then. The history of the sporty roadster is well traceable on the basis of the existing checkbook, even if the documentation was not kept without gaps. The accident-free vehicle is certified to carry H-plates and passed its main inspection at the TÜV in May 2022. The small sports car is registered and ready to drive without restrictions, so it can be handed over to the future owner with the original set of keys.

Exterior color/paint/rust:

The offered Fiat 124 shines in a beautiful red tone Cherry Red that fits perfectly to an Italian convertible. Some restoration work has been done on the car over the years, but the body remains in its original condition. It cannot be said with certainty if and in which areas the elegant roadster has been repainted. As the many pictures show, the vehicle presents polished up with shiny chrome bumpers and original trim in its characteristic look.

Exterior Rims/Brakes/Chassis:

Maxilite Minilite rims are mounted on the elegant roadster, giving the sports car an authentic look. The Tracmax X-Privilo tires are in good to very good condition and the brakes are in good working order. The chassis is unchanged since first use and thus the characteristics of this historic Fiat 124 Spider perfectly preserved.

Interior:

In the interior of the elegant sports car dark tones dominate, which provide a pleasant contrast to the exterior. The anthracite leather seats exude comfort and luxury, and the same materials were used in the design of the side panels. The light brown steering wheel in typical three-spoke design is an additional eye-catcher and harmonizes very nicely with the grained wood decor of the otherwise black dashboards. The cockpit appears very well maintained and all displays are clearly visible. During the inspection, no damage and only minimal traces of use were found. Other features of the vehicle include chrome exterior mirrors, a typical pop-out window and black tarpaulin cover, while a radio provides entertainment on the road.

Mileage and Instruments:

The Fiat 124 Spider has covered a distance of slightly less than 31,000 miles in its history, which is equivalent to about 49,000 kilometers and can be read on the speedometer dial. All instruments and gauges were fully functional during the inspection, and no restrictions were found on the other controls.

Engine:

The dynamic roadster uses a four-cylinder gasoline engine with a displacement of 1.8 liters that produces 118 hp (87 KW). A five-speed manual transmission provides the gearing that allows top speeds of over 175 kilometers per hour. The last service on the Fiat 124 Spider 1800 took place in May 2022, and no complications were found on the engine, transmission and other technical components.

Underbody:

The underbody of the sports car has been very well cared for and maintained throughout its history, giving it a very good overall appearance. Corrosion was almost non-existent during the appraisal, and in addition, the roadster's exhaust system was completely renewed.

Documents:

To the Fiat 124 Spider a checkbook exists, which was maintained since first commissioning, however, is not completely complete. Further documents and invoices are available, which give an overall impression of the history of the vehicle.

For whom is the vehicle meant

The Fiat 124 Spider is a timelessly beautiful sports car, which is exactly the correct for friends of the Italian life feeling. The lightweight with the great cornering was already considered a real sunshine in the 1970s and fascinated especially in America with its incomparable charm. Pininfarina led many vehicles to world fame, nevertheless there is no car in which so much heart blood of the Turin design forge was put. Thus, a real gem was created that still receives much admiration today.
