Vehicle description

Model history:

Puma was a Brazilian car brand and existed since 1966. In 1970, the 1600 GT Spider was exhibited for the first time at the Sao Paulo Motor Show by the "Puma Veiculos e Motores Ltda.", which, like the coupe produced since 1969, was based on the shortened platform of the VW 1600 from Volkswagen do Brasil and had a plastic body. The design came from a hobby racing driver named Rino Malzoni, who had previously built GRP coupés with DKW three-cylinder engines. In total, Puma produced around 22,000 vehicles, all of which were based on a central tubular frame with fiberglass body in their basic design, before Ford acquired the rights to the Puma brand in 1995.

General information about the vehicle:

Now in this auction a Puma GTE (the E stands for "export") Spider from the year of construction 1980 can be purchased, which is based on VW. The chassis number of this Spider is SP1028744, an exact history of the vehicle can no longer be presented after consultation with the current owner, but the seller states that the mileage is traceable and the car has only 3 owners in total. This Puma GTE Spider may already carry an H license plate and the last completed main inspection is valid until November 2024.

Exterior colour/varnish/body:

The paint color of this Spider is kept in bright red - the seller states that this Puma GTE 1600 has already undergone a partial restoration and in the course of which it has already undergone a professional repainting worth almost 8,000. Optical defects are not known to the current owner of the Puma, also modifications deviating from the original condition are not to be listed. The soft top can apparently be taken from a crack-free condition and also the plastic rear window presents itself well preserved. All attachments on the vehicle are fully preserved and missing parts are not present on the exterior.

Exterior rims/brakes/chassis:

Tyres in the dimensions of 195/70 on the front axle and 205/70 on the rear axle are mounted in good condition on 14 inch 6-spoke rims. The seller attests to the brakes a condition between 50-70% and in the area of the chassis according to this no inconsistencies are to be discovered.

Interior:

Apparently very well preserved is the contemporary interior of the Puma GTE Spider with brown / beige / black / white stripe pattern in the seats. The entire interior of the car is mostly in brown, only the original black 3-spoke leather steering wheel stands out. In addition to a cassette radio, there is also a fire extinguisher inside the Puma in the passenger footwell. The function of the soft top is perfectly given and it can be easily opened and closed. Defects in the interior are not to be found according to the seller. For more details, please have a look at the other photos and videos of the car.

Mileage

Brown dials skilfully fit into the cockpit design of the Puma: The 5-digit speedometer of the Spider shows 69,650 kilometers, which, according to the current owner, can also be partially occupied. Furthermore, the seller states that all instruments of the Puma work without problems.

Engine

The four-cylinder boxer engine of this Puma Spider with 1.6-liter displacement comes from VW and provides in this GTE Spider for an output of 90 hp. Via a 4-speed manual transmission, the power of the air-cooled boxer engine is transferred to the rear wheels and thus to the road. After consultation with the current owner of the vehicle, he states that a final service took place at KM level 63,000.

Subsoil:

Light flash rust can be seen on the underside of the Puma - in addition, the seller states that some has already been welded. If you are looking for a rare sports car as a Spider, which has a fiberglass body and is independent in terms of design - although based on mass production technology - this rare Puma GTE Spider 1600 from 3rd hand with robust VW technology is recommended.
