Vehicle description

Model history:

Parallel to the Type 14, there was the large VW Karmann Ghia (Type 34) in the years from 1961 to 1969. The presentation of the Type 34 took place at the IAA in Frankfurt together with the new VW Type 3 series, on which the great Karmann is based. The design comes again from Ghia, the production took over Karmann. The 1.5-liter rear engine initially produced 45 hp, from 1963 it was 54 hp (1500 S). In 1965, a 1.6-liter engine with 54 hp was used, at the same time disc brakes were introduced at the front. While around 440,000 units of the Type 14 were produced, only around 42,000 vehicles of the Type 34 were produced.

General information about the vehicle:

Now a VW Karmann Ghia Type 34 from 1965 is for sale in this auction, which is an imported vehicle from Sweden and, according to the seller, had stood in the Arvika Car Museum for over 40 years before it came to Germany to be restored. A total of 2 owners for this VW with the chassis number 345153985 are known, a history of the vehicle is not available after consultation with the current owner. This VW is not yet in possession of an H-approval, nor is there currently a valid TÜV for the Karmann Ghia - but the seller notes that the car is easily ready to drive.

Exterior colour/varnish/body:

Externally, this VW Karmann Ghia presents itself in a light gray shade: According to the seller, the entire body has been restored and completely repainted. Damage, missing parts or even modifications deviating from the original condition are not to be mentioned according to the current owner. An accident can be ruled out after consultation with the owner in the current possession. All trim parts on the car are in good condition and the chrome of the coupe apparently still shines as it should.

Exterior rims/brakes/chassis:

Original steel rims with chrome hubcaps together with tires, which are equipped with sufficient tread, ensure the further visual appearance of the vehicle. The condition of the brake system is given by the seller with 70-90%, in the area of the chassis according to him no inconsistencies are to be listed.

Interior:

The interior of this Karmann Ghia Type 34 offers the typical flair of VW classics of the 60s: A 2-spoke steering wheel, filigree switches and levers as well as a clear overview. The partial leather seats are in white, the interior carpet has a grey colour. In the rear, the rear windows can be displayed laterally, at the front the window panes are operated by hand crank. The equipment of this VW Karmann Ghia Type 34 is concentrated on the essentials. For a detailed overview of the condition of the interior, we refer to the many other photos of the vehicle.

Mileage

Three simple round instruments are in the driver's field of vision: The 5-digit speedometer shows 62,480 kilometers, which, according to the seller, cannot be traced. All instruments and displays in the interior are in service without hesitation.

Engine

The air-cooled four-cylinder boxer engine of this Type 34 delivers 54 hp - the power is transmitted via a 4-speed manual transmission to the rear wheels. Except that the engine is a bit damp with oil, the current owner is not aware of any defects.

Subsoil:

The seller describes the condition of the underside of this VW as rustproof and welded. The VW Karmann Ghia Type 34 is considered the "big brother" of the Type 14 and visually stood out clearly from its smaller brother: It offers a pretty body paired with reliable technology. With this Karmann Ghia Coupé from 1965 offered here, the future owner buys a freshly restored model, which convinces above all by its elegant charisma and thus attracts attention.
