Vehicle description
The so-called Midget model of the company MG initially technically corresponded to the Austin-Healey Sprite. The MkI built from 1961 onwards was followed by an improved MkII in 1964 and the MG Midget MkIII appeared in 1966. When the last Austin-Healey Sprite left the factory in 1971, its sister model – the MG Midget – was to be built for another 8 years. Especially in the USA, the models sold well and when new regulations came into force there – which, among other things, demanded stricter safety requirements – MG equipped its Midget accordingly with larger bumpers and a higher chassis in order to remain present in the US car market. This is how the MkIV was born, which was finally built until 1979 and was to become the last Midget series.
The MG Midget 1500 offered here is a year of construction 1979. The British roadster imported from the Netherlands with the chassis number GAN6UL223832G was registered for the first time on 30.06.1979. Over the years, according to the seller, about 3-4 holders came together – According to the seller, a history of the MG is available. The so-called matching numbers are assumed, furthermore there are still 2 vehicle keys to the Midget. The last completed main inspection is valid until June 2024, an H-approval already ennobles this British roadster.
The paint of this Midget is kept in classic "British racing green" – according to the seller, a complete paint finish took place many years ago. Except for small dents and traces of use caused by the years and the use of the car, no significant defects can be attributed to the exterior. All chrome applications on the Roadster are also fully preserved and in good shape. The black soft top of the MG is crack-free and in good condition – in addition, no cracks can be detected in the plastic rear window. The current owner can rule out an accident.
Tires with sufficient tread in very good condition according to the seller's statements are mounted on steel rims with hubcaps in spoke wheel design. In terms of braking, there are apparently no inconsistencies to be discovered (brake hoses have only recently been renewed) and no deviations from the original condition can be taken in the area of the chassis.
Light brown imitation leather can be found in the interior of this British roadster: except for a damaged floor carpet, the current owner can not list any negative aspects of the interior. The rider reaches for a 3-spoke Moto Lita wooden steering wheel, as further features are the fog lights, the chrome luggage rack and a radio. Except for the radio, all instruments in the interior of the MG Midget work perfectly. There is also a tarpaulin for the soft top, and the seller also states that he has procured new plastic windows.
61,500 kilometres can be read on the classic round instruments of the MG Midget. Through various documents and documents, the history and thus also the mileage of this roadster can be almost traced according to the seller.
The in-line four-cylinder engine with a displacement of 1.5 litres generates 51 hp – thanks to the vehicle's low unladen weight, the Midget can be moved with a correspondingly light-footed movement. Via a 4-speed manual transmission, the individual gears can be engaged cleanly and without problems, even in the area of the engine, according to the seller, no defects can be listed. Recent repair work includes: the renewal of the carburetor, cardan shaft, seals and spark plugs. Furthermore, all filters were changed. In June 2022, a final service took place, pending repairs are currently not available.
The underside of the roadster is unwelded and in a very good state of preservation in view of the age of the vehicle. The MG Midget is one of those cars that, regardless of its engine power and speed, offers maximum driving pleasure at a manageable cost. In addition, the MG Midget simply has a purist roadster feeling. The Midget offered here convinces by its classic British color combination as well as by the very good overall condition, which also allows a certain everyday suitability – In addition, this car comes from the last series.
