Vehicle description

Model history:

Volvo are considered indestructible. This also applies to the Swedish car manufacturer's 240 family, which was introduced in 1974 - including the 242, 244 and 245 models. The model names followed a simple logic: 200 series + 4 cylinders + number of doors. From 1982, the various models were uniformly combined as "240". The 240 was Volvo's volume model in the 1970s and 1980s. By the end of production in 1993, more than 2.8 million units of the entire Volvo 200 series had been produced.

General information about the vehicle:

In this auction, a Volvo 244DL, which dates back to 1978, can now be auctioned. This vehicle, originally delivered in Germany, with the chassis number 840181 has only 1 holder according to the seller's information and the so-called matching numbers are assumed. Although the Volvo is not yet in possession of an H-approval, it has a valid TÜV until September 2023.

Exterior colour/varnish/body:

As partially restored, the seller indicates the condition of the car, a repainting of the 244DL after a rusting cure over the years already experienced - then the car was foiled in gray. As defects on the exterior, the seller indicates a small dent on the rear left side panel behind the tire and on the trunk lid, furthermore the chrome strips over the bumpers are slightly used. Rear left should have been, according to the assumption of the seller, a damage, since there was probably filling. Otherwise, after consultation with the seller, no great signs of wear on the Volvo are recognizable, and an accident can be ruled out.

Exterior rims/brakes/chassis:

Tires in a condition between 50-70% are mounted on black steel rims, the vehicle is decelerated by brakes, which according to sellers have a condition of 70-90%. Modifications to the chassis can apparently not be detected - springs and dampers were new at the rear, at the front only the springs were renewed and the wheel bearings were adjusted.

Interior:

In the interior there are fabric seats in blue, which, according to the seller, are in an age-appropriate state of preservation with patina - just as well preserved is the interior carpet of this 244DL. A drop of bitterness in the interior of the Volvo are the door panels, which, according to the seller, are in a worn condition. The equipment of this vehicle includes, among other things, an accessory radio. For more details about the interior, please see the other photos and videos of the car.

Mileage:

In the instrument cluster, the speedometer of the Volvo shows 206,880 kilometers - a checkbook for the 244DL is no longer available after consultation with the seller. The seller notes that all displays and instruments work in the interior.

Engine:

A 1.9-liter four-cylinder carburetor engine, which delivers 90 hp, provides propulsion in combination with the 4-speed manual transmission (which also has an overdrive). In September 2022, a final service was completed - electronics, engine and transmission are preserved in impeccable condition, according to the seller, and a loss of fluid is not objectionable.

Subsoil:

The condition of the subfloor is stated by the seller as stainless, welded and preserved as well as cavity sealed. A solid construction, robust mechanics, a good supply of spare parts and a decent amount of space are on the credit side of a Volvo 240 family. With this 244DL, the future owner gets a Volvo in honest condition, which convinces with its good overall condition and is perfect as an entry-level classic car.
