Vehicle description

Model history:

From the mid-1940s, the Triumph brand belonged to the Standard Motor Company, which had been in existence since 1903, and had a good reputation for its successful sports cars, which included the 1950 TR2, followed in 1955 by the so-called TR3. The TR3 was the first British production car ever to be equipped with disc brakes on the front wheels. Especially in the USA, the new Triumph was marketed quite well, which is why a large number of models were sold there and the designation "TR3A" became established - the "A" stood for America. In 1957, the TR3 was visually revised somewhat. In total, Triumph built more than 70,000 copies of the TR3 until 1962.

General information about the vehicle:

The Triumph TR 3 from 1957 released for auction in this auction is an import model from Holland, which, according to the seller, has a total of 4 owners to date. A history of the British roadster with the chassis number 2TS80601L is available after consultation with the current owner in the form of pictures and a few documents. Besides an H-registration this TR 3 also has a "Historic Vehicle Identity Form" of the FiA (Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile), a new MOT will be done by the owner this week.

Exterior color/paint/bodywork:

Externally this Triumph TR 3 shows itself decorated with typical motosport stickers, also different companies are present with their logo through their stickers on the vehicle. Of course these stickers can be removed. The current owner of the Triumph cannot say for sure whether the body has been completely painted before, but a partial restoration has already been done - the seller excludes an accident-free condition in the current holding period. Apparently well preserved, the chrome trim elements on the vehicle shine. All details regarding the exterior can be seen in the many different pictures and videos of the vehicle.

Exterior Rims/Brakes/Chassis:

Tires are mounted on chrome spoke wheels, which according to the seller still have 70-90% of their new condition. Also 70-90% of condition, according to the current owner, the brakes should still have and inconsistencies on the chassis are not to be mentioned. The seller states that the front suspension comes from a TR6.

Interior:

Although the

interior of the Triumph TR 3 is cramped - which is especially noticeable when there are two of you on the road - all important functions and displays are on board. Striking features of this TR 3 offered for auction here are the black roll bar, the bucket seats with H-belts as well as the interior in general, which is completely trimmed for motorsport. Both driver and passenger have their own small windshield and the rear view mirror is mounted on the dash. All interior gauges and controls function smoothly, according to the seller. For a detailed overview of the interior, please refer to the other photos.

Mile

age

Classic round instruments hold the most necessary information in the dashboard, the speedometer shows a mileage of 78,062 miles. All instruments are in good condition as well as full function.

Engine

Conolly in England rebuilt the engine and in 2009 this engine was completely overhauled (which was also documented). After the general overhaul of the engine, according to the seller, the car was moved only about 3000km for normal trips. From 2.3-liter displacement (2320 cc), the in-line four-cylinder generates 180 hp, power is transmitted to the rear wheels via an adapted Triumph Stag manual transmission. In June 2022, the TR 3 underwent a final service. A performance diagram is available.

Underbody:

Considering that the Triumph already has an age of 65 years on the hump, the underbody can be taken after consultation with the current owner a healthy substance. The seller still lets mention that this TR 3 shows some typical defects according to the age, but drives neatly due to the Conolly engine and is only sold because the British roadster is moved too little. A perfect classic car for vintage rallies. It is also worth mentioning that there is a second set of chrome spoke wheels, two leather bucket seats, 2 plug-in discs, various new instruments, electric heater and many other parts to the car.
