Vehicle description
Model history:
Unlike its massively representative predecessor in the W 116 series, the new Mercedes-Benz S-Class (W 126) presented in September 1979 had a coupé-like, gracier
appearance.Slightly longer than the preceding model and featuring a slightly longer wheelbase, the timelessly styled newcomer did not appear antiquated even years later. The S-Class of the W 126 series was available with a normal wheelbase and an extended wheelbase (SEL). The smallest engine was the 2.8-liter in-line six-cylinder, while at the top end was the 560 with a 5.6-liter V8 engine. In total, almost 900,000 units of the 126 series were produced
General information about the vehicle:
The Mercedes-Benz offered for sale in this auction is a 380 SE of the 126 series, which was first registered in the USA in 1984 and which, according to the seller, was an early Plasti-Fab company car. Over the years, the 380 SE with VIN WDBCA32B4EA040947 was eventually imported from California to Germany, where an owner called the car his own. After consultation with the seller, the car had been serviced, but the service booklet was lost during the transfer from the USA to Germany. Matching numbers are assumed and the last MOT on this sedan ran until June 2022.
Exterior Color/Paint/Body:
The paint color on this 380 SE is "Light Ivory-Unilack" (color code 623): According to the seller, the car should be repaint-free and an accident-free condition in the current ownership is confirmed by the owner. Only in California a slight rear-end collision happened, which can be seen on the front bumpers of the US bumpers when looking closely. All plastic add-on parts as well as trim elements on the exterior are apparently completely preserved and no missing parts can be detected. According to the seller, the Mercedes-Benz was refitted with German headlights at the authorized workshop Stern Partner in Celle (sun protection film had to be removed) and serviced (front axle bearings, central locking, exterior interior mirrors, newly blasted manhole cover rims. Except for minor punctual paint defects, the body of the Mercedes-Benz sedan shows according to statements of the seller in a well-preserved condition.
Exterior Rims/Brakes/Chassis:
For the further external appearance of the sedan provide Mercedes-Benz "Gullideckel" aluminum rims, on which tires of the brand Continental in the dimension 205/65 R15 show up mounted. The current owner of the car certifies that the brakes are in about 50-70% of their new condition, the tires were recently replaced and there are no defects in the chassis.
Interior:
Matching the exterior color, the interior presents itself in "leather date": Although the seller states that the left door panel shows slight damages, the headliner in the rear area hangs down a bit and the dashboard might need to be repaired with a new ticking - but on the whole, the interior presents itself in a well-preserved condition considering the vehicle's age of almost 40 years by now. In addition to the leather seats, after deciphering the special equipment codes of this Mercedes-Benz, the following equipment items can be found on board, among others: Outside temperature display, electric sunroof, cruise control, airbag, outside mirrors electrically adjustable on the right, automatic antenna, sun visor with make-up seal illuminated on the left and right, burglar and anti-theft alarm system, folding armrest in front, automatic air conditioning, electric windows front and rear, heat-insulating glass all around, heated rear window, exit lights on the doors, radio Becker Mexico Grand Prix. For a detailed overview of the interior, please refer to the other photos.
Mileage:
161,908 miles can be read on the mileage speedometer - this would correspond to a KM performance of approximately 260,560. Although the speedometer shows according to the seller, the mileage counter does not work anymore.
Engine:
According to the seller, the 3.8-liter V8 engine of this Mercedes-Benz, which is located in the front, produces approx. 150 hp - the power transmission to the rear axle is taken over by a 4-speed automatic
. Thelast time this sedan was serviced was in 2016.
Underbody:
A look at the underbody reveals a largely rust-free condition of this sedan - gross inconsistencies cannot be picked out on the underside of the 380 SE. The seller lets mention that with this USA import only German headlights and reflectors are to be attached and for example with a cab sign on the roof a nice appearance at oldtimer rallies can be put down. In sum, here is a 380 SE that can also be used as a solid daily driver due to its contemporary color combination and extensive equipment.
