Vehicle description
The Dino 308 GT4 with 3.0-liter V8 engine replaced the Dino 246 with six-cylinder engine in 1974. Although sold as an independent brand until mid-1976 and only then the brand name was replaced on Ferrari, the new entry-level model was de facto the first Ferrari road sports car with a V8 engine and the only one with Bertone design. The 208 GT4 was produced especially for the Italian market from 1975, as a luxury tax was levied on cars with more than 2.0 liters in Italy at that time. To compensate for the lack of displacement in the 208 GT4 compared to the 308 GT4, the Italian engineers have chosen a different gear ratio. While more than 2,800 units of the 308 GT4 were produced, the 208 GT4 came to just over 800 units.
The Ferrari Dino 208 GT4 from 1977 offered in this auction is one of only 840 units worldwide. As intended, this Dino was first delivered to Italy, where the first owner allowed it for the first time in July 1977. To date, this Sports car designed by Bertone with the chassis number F106CL13410 has only 2 holders. After consultation with the seller, he states that the 208 GT4 has already undergone a complete restoration over the years and that the history of the vehicle can be traced back through various documents. In addition to 2 vehicle keys, this Dino has TÜV until June 2023, the car already has a historical approval and the so-called matching numbers are assumed.
Sharp edges and clear lines shape the exterior of the Ferrari Dino 208 GT4, the body is kept in a paint color called "Verde Pino" and impresses except for a few existing traces of use by their good condition for the age of the car. At that time, folding headlights were part of the car fashion: the Ferrari Dino also wears them – their function is without problems. The chrome elements on the exterior of the vehicle can be attributed a shiny condition, and there are no external defects or modifications deviating from the original condition. An accident is ruled out by the current owner in his holding period.
According to the seller, Fulda tyres are mounted on original Ferrari Cromodora rims in 60% of their new condition. The current holder states the condition of the brakes as good, deficits in the chassis area can apparently not be detected.
Typical Ferrari style can be taken from the brown/beige interior with partial leather seats: Except for a few traces of wear collected over the years in the interior, the Dino 208 GT4 can be attested to a good and slightly used state of preservation in this area. Damage or missing parts in the interior of this Ferrari are not to be enumerated, furthermore, the seller mentions that the 208 GT4 is completely in its original color combination and original equipment combination. Speaking of equipment: On board are electric windows, air conditioning and a cassette radio.
Black round instruments – which contain yellow hands – can be found in the instrument cluster. On the speedometer of this Ferrari a mileage of 98,700 kilometers can be read. According to the seller, this mileage can be partially proven by some retained documents such as former invoices and inspection reports. All instruments can be attested to their proper functioning.
Transversely installed and positioned in the middle of the Ferrari is the 2.0-liter V8 engine, which delivers an output of 160 hp via a 5-speed manual transmission (with open shift backdrop) to the rear wheels on the road. In March 2021, the Dino underwent a final service, and the timing belt was also changed. The seller mentions that there is no repair backlog on this 208 GT4 and therefore there are currently no defects in the technology to be listed.
According to the current owner, there are traces of use on the underbody, but on the whole this Ferrari has a good substance. A big name, fabulous design, a melodic V8 engine: a Ferrari Dino 208 GT4 appeals to the senses and provides grandeur due to its look and feel. This Ferrari Dino to be auctioned not only convinces with its extremely rare color combination of interior and exterior (according to research by the seller and the demand at the Maranello plant, only 17 copies in the paint color Verde Pino have been delivered), but also impresses with the non-existent repair backlog, which ensures that the loud sounding and blessed with a unique soundscape 2.0-liter V8 engine runs flawlessly.
