Model history

In 1962, Chevrolet launched the second generation of the Corvette under the name "Sting Ray". The design, inspired by the look of a stingray, was developed by GM design chief Bill Mitchell and differed greatly from the rounder predecessor model. For the first time, Chevrolet also offered a coupé alongside the roadster in the C2. A striking feature of the first model year was the split rear window, which was, however, replaced by a conventional rear window due to the limited view to the rear. The basic version was equipped with a 327 cubic inch (5.7-liter) small block V8, which produced at least 250 SAE hp. From 1965, big block engines with up to 435 hp and a displacement of 7.0 liters were also available.
