Vehicle description
Model history:
With the Corvette C3, the American car manufacturer General Motors decided to embark on a new design era. The third generation of the Corvette grew considerably in size compared to its predecessor, was produced in the so-called "Coke-Bottle Design" with a plastic body from 1967 to 1982 and, with a production period of 15 years, is considered the longest Corvette generation built. A total of nearly 543,000 Corvette C3s were produced. The engines range from the 5.4-liter V8 base engine to a 7.4-liter unit, which has the largest displacement in Corvette history.
General information about the vehicle:
The Corvette put up for auction in this auction is a C3 with first registration in 1980 in a "John Player Special" version. The Corvette C3 with the chassis number 1Z878AS40211 was first registered in Germany in March 1980. It was subsequently used as a company vehicle and then passed back into private hands. In addition to the current owners, the vehicle has a total of four previous owners. In addition to the current registration certificate, the original vehicle registration document (No 69310171) is also present. There are three door keys, two ignition keys and one fuel key available. The receipts for main - and exhaust emission test (valid until November 2024) will also be handed over to the future owner.
In June 2022 an independent appraisal was made
.
The appraisal certifies the Corvette offered here a replacement value of 51,000 € and an overall condition grade of "2+".The vehicle has an H-registration, which keeps the maintenance costs in terms of road tax - and insurance very manageable. Those who prefer a powerful appearance in terms of extroversion and visual appearance will find a suitable partner in this American sports car. Also lovers of the "John Player Special" design and classic car collectors with a penchant for eye-catching one-offs will be absolutely thrilled by this vehicle. In the current configuration, this Corvette C3 is probably unique.
Exterior color / paint / body:
Visually, this black / gold C3 offers a striking appearance due to numerous painted decor elements and foliations. According to the value appraisal (2021) a repainting in black (original color red) of the vehicle took place. In addition, it is noted in the valuation report that the body can be attributed a very good condition.
Thedoor rubbers were renewed recently.
The salesman lets note that only normal, age-conditioned use traces (see detail pictures) are to be found outside and the Corvette shows up except for a light parking damage over the license plate in front very well preserved.
Apart from the lacquer finish among other things the following work was accomplished at the exterior: Making racing rear spoiler (not mounted on the pictures) and mounting fender flares. In addition, the headlights were renewed (the mechanism of the folding headlights works perfectly). Further details can be seen in the series of pictures.
Exterior Rims/Brakes/Suspension:
In keeping with the overall appearance of this C3, the original rims are also painted in gold. The rims are fitted with Goodyear tires with a tread depth of 7.5 mm on the front axle and 8.0 mm on the rear axle. The brake system is in very good to mint condition. Brake discs and pads were recently renewed. The brake calipers on the rear axle are also as good as new. The rubber bearings of the stabilizers, the bell crank and the handbrake cable were also renewed recently.
Interior:
Further "John Player Special" features can also be found in the interior of the sports car: Various "JPS" and "World Champion" stickers have been applied, and interior elements such as the gearshift lever and baffle on the steering wheel are finished in gold. Driver and passenger sit on black leather seats with red harness belts (additional 3-point belts are installed). The seats have age-appropriate traces of use. The 3-spoke steering wheel is also in black leather and makes a mint impression. For more fresh air in the interior the two mirrored roof halves of the Corvette can be removed.
In the interior further small details show up, which make the unique character of this vehicle
.
A fixed, red roll bar increases active safety and shines with great looks. The digital tank, charging current and coolant temperature display informs the driver efficiently. The three analog stopwatches for measuring lap times on the racetrack allow the driver to indulge in nostalgia. To get a more accurate picture of the equipment elements as well as the general condition of the interior, we recommend reviewing the numerous photos accompanying the vehicle.
Mileage:
The mileage read on the classic Corvette instruments is 90,238 kilometers
. There isno service booklet or other evidence to confirm the total mileage.
Engine:
From 5.7-liter displacement, the V8 engine of this Corvette produces 196 horsepower ex-factory. Power is transmitted to the rear axle via a 3-speed automatic transmission. The engine sound suggests that racing camshafts are installed and the engine power is higher. However, the seller has no more detailed knowledge about this. A performance measurement has not taken place. The following parts have been installed or renewed: thermostat, sport air filter, digital fuel tank sensor, valve cover chrome, starter battery (incl. main switch to interrupt the power supply). Two racing exhaust silencers in the exhaust system provide a pleasant rich engine sound.
Thealternator was renewed in November 2022.
Underbody:
Except for flash rust can the underbody, according to the seller, no irregularities are known. An inspection on a lifting platform has not taken place. After longer periods of standing, slight leaks can be seen on the drive train. However, regular use of the vehicle minimizes these.
