Model history

The BMW E24 marked the beginning of the 6 Series and was produced from January 1976 to 1989. As a sporty Grand Tourer model, it replaced the BMW E9 and was only available as a 2-door coupé. All versions of the E24 were equipped with gasoline engines, with most models - with the exception of the M635CSi/M6 - being based on the robust BMW M30 in-line six-cylinder engine. The E24 was replaced in 2004 by the E63 6-Series, which appeared after a 16-year hiatus. Although the E31 8 Series was launched at the same time, it is not considered a direct successor to the E24, but a model series in its own right.
