Vehicle description
At the end of 1981, Maserati introduced the "Biturbo", which was initially only available as a two-door 2+2 Coupé. With 180 hp from a displacement of 2.0 liters, it fit into the Italian tax system, in which a luxury surcharge was due for vehicles with larger engines. For other markets, a 2.5-liter was added, as well as a four-door sedan and a strengthened 2.0-liter with intercoolers. In 1984, Maserati presented the Spyder styled by Zagato. In 1988, the Spyder-i models with injection engines followed, in 1989 came an export version with 2.8-liter displacement and in 1992 four-valve engines with two overhead camshafts per bank of the V6 were introduced. By 1994, only just over 3,000 Biturbo Spyders had been manufactured.
A Maserati Biturbo Spyder from the year of construction 1994 can now be auctioned in this auction: The model offered here with the FIN ZAM333B00NB102981 is an originally German first delivery, only over the years the Spyder came to Austria. In total, the Maserati counts 2 holders, according to the seller, the previous owner was a collector. In addition to a guided checkbook, there are also various documents and documents about the car, which make the history of the Biturbo comprehensible. The so-called matching numbers are assumed, 2 vehicle keys are available for the Spyder and the TÜV is renewed by the current holder before the handover.
Externally, the Maserati Biturbo Spyder, which is kept in a light blue, presents itself in an acceptable condition except for minor paint damage and a few cracks in the hood and except for the front of the Maserati model "Shamal" no modifications to the exterior are to be listed. According to the seller, only the bonnet was repainted on the body of the Spyder – otherwise the car impresses with its first paint. Neither the front bumper nor the rear bumper show any traces of a parking bumper – after consultation with the current owner, he even states that an accident can be completely ruled out.
A good visual appearance is ensured by the slightly larger Maserati 18-inch alloy wheels compared to the original rims – which are still available and given – on which new tires of the Continental brand are mounted with still plenty of tread. The current owner attests to the brakes a proper condition, in the area of the chassis no deficits can be identified.
Luxurious ambience can be discovered in the interior of this Maserati Biturbo Spyder: a mixture of Alcantara, leather and wood characterize the interior. Apparently, no damage in this area is present, and no missing parts can be identified inside the Maserati – the interior looks very well maintained with a touch of patina. The equipment of the Biturbo can be regarded as rich for the time: On board are power steering, central locking, electric windows, air conditioning, cruise control and an accessory radio. The cover that can be easily opened is available.
There are 7 round instruments – which are backed by blue dials – in the instrument cluster. 76,290 kilometers can be read from the speedometer. Due to the partially maintained service booklet and the many available invoices and former TÜV certificates, the total mileage of this Maserati can be proven. With the exception of a sometimes non-descendable side window and a functionless clock, all displays and instruments run properly and without defects.
From 2.0 liters, the V6, which is charged via 2 turbos, produces an output of 241 hp, which is transmitted to the rear axle via a ZF 5-speed manual transmission. In 2020, the Maserati underwent a final service, during which a complete engine service including timing belt change was carried out. Except for a possible repair of the soft top, no repairs are currently to be carried out from the seller's point of view.
The underbody condition can be described as ok. A Maserati Biturbo Spyder represents a racy thoroughbred of the legendary noble brand with racing merits. Due to the 2 turbochargers, the Biturbo promises a proverbial charged driving experience, which is further enhanced in the case of the Spyder with the top open. According to seller research, Maserati allegedly produced only 400 copies of this model offered here with this engine. Because of this and also because this Biturbo Spyder has a rich history, it represents an exclusive convertible with history.
