Vehicle description
Model history:
Introduced in 1977, it initially did not receive the fair appreciation from the cast-iron rear-engine air boxer fans it was entitled to. Due to the different vehicle layout with front engine, water cooling and eight-cylinder, the die-hard 911 faction did not immediately know what to think of the new Porsche 928. But less emotional contemporaries quickly realized that the new, water-cooled front-engine coupés with transaxle design had excellent driving characteristics and all-round qualities. While the dynamics of the first 928 with 340 hp from 4.5 liters of displacement were not yet so mature, the second development stage, the 928 S, which was introduced in 1980, already provided a whopping 300 hp with consumption values reduced by around 25 percent.
General information about the vehicle:
Here a Porsche 928 S is now offered for auction, which with the VIN WP0JB0929GS861923 represents an import from the USA and, according to the seller, has an uncertain number of holders. The so-called matching numbers are assumed, TÜV or an H-approval are not yet available. Although there is no longer a checkbook for the transaxle Porsche, according to the seller, the mileage can be traced at least rudimentarily. Worth mentioning is an existing Classic Data valuation report from November 2022, which certifies the Porsche 928 S a market value of € 42,000 and the grade 2-.
Exterior colour/varnish/body:
The paint colour of this unrestored transaxle sports car is grey - repainting cannot be ruled out after consultation with the seller. Modifications to the body, deviating from the original condition, can apparently not be complained about and all attachments to the vehicle present themselves in good condition. An absence of accidents during the current holding period can be confirmed by the current owner. For a detailed overview of the state of preservation of this car, we refer to the telling series of pictures, and the videos also provide good information about the condition of this 928 S.
Exterior rims/brakes/chassis:
Continental tires are mounted on original Porsche alloy rims in a condition estimated by the seller of 50-70%. Also 50-70% of the condition attests to the current owner of the Porsche the brakes and in the area of the chassis according to him no modifications or inconsistencies are to be mentioned.
Interior:
Matching the exterior color, the interior is kept in different shades of brown and the footwell carpet can be found in beige color. As a defect in the interior of the 928 S, the seller mentions various cracks in the dashboard - otherwise no gross damage can be listed. There are also apparently no missing parts inside the Porsche and in view of the vehicle's age of now over 35 years, the 928 S can generally be attested to a good state of preservation. In addition to power steering, 4-spoke leather steering wheel, electric windows, electrically adjustable seats, climate control, cruise control and central locking, there is also an Alpine CD radio on board the vehicle. All equipment elements are said to function flawlessly and all controls and displays in the interior are also in service without any problems.
Mileage:
The clearly readable instrument cluster of this 928 S shows a mileage of 111,030 miles - this would correspond to a mileage of the equivalent of 178,680. The seller mentions that the total mileage of the Porsche is approximately verifiable on the basis of several existing invoices.
Engine:
The 4.7-liter V8 engine of the Porsche 928 S delivers 288 hp - the power of the 8 cylinders is delivered to the rear axle by means of a 5-speed manual transmission. This transaxle Porsche underwent a final service in September 2020.
Subsoil:
The seller declares the condition of the underbody of this Porsche to be rustproof and unwelded. Compared to the basic 928 model, the 928 S has a more powerful and higher-displacement engine, and Porsche also gave it some other changes. This manual transaxle Porsche offered here convinces with its good stainless condition and the completely original condition without any modifications.
