Model history

Originally developed as a military vehicle, the Mercedes-Benz G-Class rolled off the production line in Graz, Austria from 1979 under the joint Steyr-Daimler-Puch label. Mercedes developers initially teamed up with the off-road experts from Steyr-Daimler-Puch in Austria, where the G was significantly developed, tested on the nearby local mountain Schöckl and produced.
