Vehicle description
Model history:
The MG TD was introduced in 1950 and belonged to the T series of the British MG Motor Group. It was among the sportiest roadsters of its time. The car's new features included independent suspension with a hypoid-toothed differential on the rear axle, rack-and-pinion steering, 15-inch disc wheels and right-hand drive as standard. With its 54 horsepower engine, the car reached a top speed of 123 mph. In the period from 1950 to 1953, a total of almost 30,000 examples of the MG TD were produced, the majority of which were exported to America.
General information about the vehicle:
You can acquire an MG TD from 1952 in the following auction. The car with the VIN 28667 was first registered on the roads in 1952. Until today the roadster has been maneuvered over the roads by five previous owners. It is not certain if the car was imported, but the current owner suspects that this MG might be an import from England. At the moment the car has a valid MOT sticker until April 2024, is registered and also ready to drive. The existing H license plate certifies the car's classic car status.
Exterior Color/Paint/Body:
The roadster presents itself visually in an appealing red paint. In combination with the brown folding roof, the striking radiator grille and the chrome-plated elements, it conveys a timeless and classic charm. The exterior is rounded out by a spare wheel attached to the trunk. The owner states that the paint is in good condition for its age, but minor repainting is visible in some areas. The brown folding roof is apparently in decent condition, with no cracks or grosser defects. Further impressions and various perspectives can be taken from the professional series of pictures.
Exterior Rims/Brakes/Chassis:
Chromed multi-spoke rims skillfully complement the appearance
.
The 15-inch Firestone disc wheels mounted on them have an extremely good tread depth, with the tread condition estimated at 70 to 90%. The current owner also describes the braking system as reliable and impeccable, and he also estimates its service condition at 70-90%. In addition, there are no known inconsistencies in the chassis and brakes, and the car is in accident-free condition.
Interior:
The interior of the MG TD is given a classic feel by the combination of black leather upholstery and a wood-look dashboard. The interior is completed with large gauges and a four-spoke wooden steering wheel. As can be seen in the attached pictures, normal signs of use may be present in the interior. Additionally, it is noted that the left support of the folding roof is unstable. To get your own impression, we recommend viewing the professional pictures and videos showing various perspectives of the MG TD.
Mileage:
The classic odometer, bordered by a chrome surround, reads 37,780 miles (approximately 60,801 km). Although a checkbook is present, it has some gaps, making this reading impossible to track. The current owner points out that the car's time clock does not work and the speedometer only works properly at higher temperatures. However, he confirms that the other interior gauges and instruments work properly.
Engine:
The Roadster is powered by a K040/5200 engine, which has an output of about 54 horsepower. In combination with a manual transmission, the power is transferred to the roads. According to The Motor magazine, the Roadster makes it from 0 to 100 km/h in about 18.2 seconds. According to our information, the last service was performed in May 2022, and there are no known problems in the field of the engine and technology. Thus, the MG TD is technically flawless and ready for many more exciting driving experiences.
Underbody
:The underside of the MG TD is in a condition commensurate with its age. There are slight signs of flash rust on this nearly 70 year old vehicle. However, it is important to stress that the owner confirms that the rust has no effect on the structure of the vehicle and that no welding has been done on the underside.
As part of a partial restoration, some parts of the vehicle have been replaced, as can be seen in the attached pictures
.
The related investments and the detailed invoice have been carefully documented and are available as pictorial material. Overall, the 1952 MG TD offered here presents itself in good condition for its age. With only a few kilometers driven, foresighted maintenance by previous owners, a classic aesthetic and a flawless engine, the MG represents a wonderful asset for collectors and lovers of automobiles.
