Vehicle description

In appearance, a Volvo PV 544 is strongly reminiscent of its predecessor – the PV 444. The most striking difference in the model offered by the Swedes from 1958 lies in the windscreen, which is now one-piece. A new dashboard and more space in the rear seat made further changes compared to the PV 444. PV already stood for "personvagn" – the Swedish word for passenger cars – on earlier models of the manufacturer. Together with the Amazon presented in 1956, the PV 544 was one of the first vehicles with standard three-point seat belts at the front. The dashboard of the Volvo was also padded and should provide an additional level of safety.

In this auction, a Volvo PV 544 from the year of construction 1964 can now be purchased, for which the first registration was originally made in his home country Sweden as intended. Although there is no longer a documented history of the Volvo, the seller states that the car with the chassis number 408356 still has 3 holders and 2 vehicle keys still exist. Whether the so-called matching numbers are given, the current owner can not say with certainty – but he assumes it. This PV 544 does not yet have a TÜV, but an H-approval is already given. From 2014, there is a short evaluation created by Classic-Data, which certified the Volvo at that time the grade 2 with a market value of 13,800 €.

The characterfully shaped rear section gave the car its nickname "Humpback Volvo". According to the badge in the engine compartment, this PV 544 was delivered in the color "Pearl White" (color code 79) – over the years, a repainting has already taken place. The general condition of the exterior of this Volvo is well preserved for its age of 58 years: Strong rust traces or missing parts on the body are not recognizable – all chrome attachments are also a well-preserved condition. On the windscreen you can see a rockfall and in a slight parking damage the left fender was already involved.

Hankook tyres from the production year 2011 are mounted in the dimension of 250/60 on 15-inch chrome rims. The tires have sufficient tread, no coarse curb scratches can be removed from the rims. The condition of the brakes is stated by the seller as ready for operation, in the area of the chassis, according to this no defects are apparent.

In the interior, red faux leather seats harmonize with red/black door panels – the dashboard is upholstered in black. The seats of the Volvo present themselves undamaged, even otherwise no large signs of wear can be detected in the entire interior, which could cloud the very good condition of this PV 544 found here. The gear lever protrudes far out, the black 2-spoke steering wheel with chrome horn ring is large and a contemporary Grundig radio stands out from the middle of the dashboard. According to the seller, all instruments in the interior have a perfect function.

69,800 kilometers can be read in the speedometer of the PV 544: A classic belt speedometer informs about the current speed of the vehicle, there is no tachometer. Although the total mileage of the Volvo cannot be traced through documents, it should be noted that this humpback Volvo has a solid basic substance and it is apparently equipped for many more kilometers.

Under the bonnet that opens forward, the Volvo four-cylinder engine with a displacement of 1.8 litres and 75 hp is revealed. Via an easy-to-shift 4-speed gearbox, the individual gears can be engaged without any problems. When a last service was carried out, the seller can not say, in addition, it is not known which repairs were carried out. As a recommendation, the current owner states that the mechanical fuel pump should be replaced by an electric one.

On the subfloor, a good condition corresponding to the age can be seen. A Volvo PV 544 is considered reliable and robust, with the body shape of the humpback Volvo always drives a bit of US style of the 30s. The Volvo offered here has everything to be regarded as a cult classic: an original body shape paired with reliable technology. Thanks to these features, the Volvo can also fully exploit its advantages as a problem-free daily driver.
