Vehicle description

Model history:

The BMW 8 Series built from 1989 to 1999 (factory-designated E31) was without doubt the new flagship under the white and blue brand. Its eight- and twelve-cylinder engines catapulted it easily to an (electronically limited) 250 km/h and enabled the exclusive circle of its buyers to glide along unrivalled comfortably. Lovers of sporty BMW coupes regarded the 8 Series as a successor to the BMW 6 Series (E24 series). However, the gently sloping front end with its pop-up headlights was reminiscent of the M1 racing sports car. A total of over 30,000 units of all models of the BMW 8 Series were produced by the end of production.

General information about the vehicle:

In this auction now comes an 8 series BMW to the auction, which was delivered in 1991 for the first time in Germany and carries the VIN WBAEG11080CB12842. This 850i has two previous owners after consultation with the seller and has its full matching numbers. The history of this E31 can be roughly traced via a partially kept checkbook. In addition to an existing H approval, this coupé also has a valid TÜV until July 2024.

Exterior colour/varnish/body:

In "diamond black metallic" is the paint color of this BMW 850i released for auction: According to the seller, no repainting has yet taken place on the vehicle and the car accordingly still has its first paint - in view of this, the exterior can be attributed a very well-preserved condition without gross defects. To get a detailed picture of the paint, the attachments and the general body condition, we recommend looking at the many photos and videos of the vehicle.

Exterior rims/brakes/chassis:

Hankook tyres are mounted on 7-spoke BMW alloy rims: The condition of the tyres is stated by the seller as well as the condition of the brake system at approx. 70-90%. According to him, no modifications are known in the area of the chassis. The vehicle offered here is a model without the ASC suspension, which is known to have often caused problems with the BMWs of that time.

Interior:

Like the exterior, the interior of the BMW 850i is also finished in black. If a BMW 8 Series E31 already has extensive equipment ex works, the following features can be listed in this coupé according to the optional equipment codes: sun protection roller blind, floor mats in velour, sports seats, heated seats, complete preparation mobile phone, hi-fi speaker system, telephone antenna C-network. Except for pixel errors in the on-board computer, according to the seller, there are no defects in the interior of this 850i that could cloud the good state of preservation in the interior.

Mileage

The digital speedometer in the instrument cluster of the BMW E31 shows 108,800 kilometres - the total mileage of the car can be approximately documented by a partially kept service booklet.

Engine

From a displacement of 5.0 litres, the V12 engine of this 850i generates a whopping 300 hp and 450 Newton metres of maximum torque. The gears are engaged manually via a 6-speed manual transmission. Of the models with manual transmission, only just under 3,000 vehicles were built, which makes this a special feature. In July 2022, the last service work on the vehicle took place.

Subsoil:

In terms of underbody technology, there is no rust or other defects to complain about in this vehicle after consultation with the seller. The BMW 8 Series undoubtedly represents a milestone in the history of BMW Coupés. A discreetly sporty colour scheme, the low mileage and the manual 6-speed manual transmission in combination with the powerful V12 engine make this BMW 850i of the E31 series available here interesting: For connoisseurs and lovers of rare coupés with high technological effort.
