Vehicle description
Highlights and general information
For sale is a VW Golf II CL 1.8 MKB GX from 1987, painted in Antelope Metallic (LA8Z), with gray fabric interior.
Highlights:
- From German first registration, accident-free, checkbook maintained, extensively restored, registered and ready to drive, in very good condition
- A total of around €12,000 and almost 90 hours of work were invested in the Golf in the recent past. The following things were done:
- All rust spots were repaired and new (original VW) sheet metal was fitted. The front mudguard was replaced by a wider Mücke mudguard made of GRP with an expert opinion - these are each approx. 4 cm wider
- Rear wheel arches were also widened and tinned - this made the Golf approx. 3.5 cm wider on each side (rear)
- A completely new rear axle was installed - due to visual defects
- Completely new front axle, consisting of engine mount and complete wheel suspension
- New coilover suspension installed, which still has some residual thread (as deep version)
- 17 rims in BBS look with new 205/40R17 tires fitted
- Front and rear brakes renewed
- Original VW Alpha radio has been professionally overhauled and works perfectly on the original speakers
- The tank and the injection system have been cleaned due to the long service life. The injection nozzles have been refreshed by the nozzle clinic. The side mounts of the parcel shelf hinges have unfortunately been torn off, but the shelf is still in good working order and is not bent or sawed in half.
- The interior was completely removed and professionally deep-cleaned by a saddler
- Foils in the doors renewed, dashboard overhauled and cleaned, ventilation ducts cleaned
- New complete GTI exhaust system from manifold with new U-KAT installed
- New rear panel from the GTI installed, as the original from the Golf II CL was not designed for a twin tailpipe system
- Vehicle has been painted - all 4 doors, hood, C-pillars and rear panel. The roof and trunk lid still have the original paint (there are still 2 spray cans of original paint ready to spray on the car). The paintwork was done in a paint shop - according to the seller - but there are small imperfections that are only noticeable on very close inspection.
- Underbody protection was renewed in the area of the wheel arches and the rear panel in the area of both sills and the rear axle mounts.
- A new coilover suspension was installed.
- All plastic parts inside and outside the vehicle were cleaned and partially recolored black
- The water cooler, air filter and oil filter were renewed and the fluids replaced
- All parts are registered by the TÜV in the vehicle documents, this was also renewed, with AU Ex works, the slightly more powerful GX engine is installed in the Golf Extensive and detailed vehicle history including numerous pictures of the restoration. Cavities have been generously sealed with original VW cavity protection.

Model history
- Today, the Volkswagen Golf II CL 1.8 is one of the classics in the compact car segment. For the baby boomer generation in particular, who are now around 50 years old, the Golf became a decisive element of their driving education. It set new standards in terms of comfort, driving safety and technology. Technologies such as the lambda probe-controlled catalytic converter, the anti-lock braking system and the first all-wheel drive in the model series played a key role in turning things around. Golf production reached an impressive 10 million vehicles in June 1988, and after producing 6.3 million vehicles, the second generation was retired in the summer of 1991.
