Vehicle description
Few other cars of the 1980s are surrounded by as many myths, stories and legends as the DeLorean. As GM manager, John DeLorean wanted to build an "ethical", i.e. durable and safe car – which he could not do at GM. So he quit and had a design proposal for his own car designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro. As a development partner, he won Lotus. The engine was the Euro-V6 from Peugeot and company, which was installed in the rear of the car. For the body, DeLorean opted for stainless steel planking on plastic beams. This was made possible, for example, by the spectacular gullwing doors that strongly characterized the car called DMC-12.
Now one of a total of just over 8,500 DeLorean DMC-12 built can be auctioned off in this auction. This car with the FIN SCEDT26T4BD006052 is a year of construction 1981, which was registered for the first time in November of the same year in the USA. The DeLorean has a total of 2 owners, over the years the DMC-12 came from Maine to Germany. A history can be proven approximately, as some documents about the vehicle are available, in addition, 2 vehicle keys are available. According to the seller, matching numbers are given, the DeLorean already carries an H-approval and the last completed TÜV runs until July 2024.
A DeLorean DMC-12 was delivered with an outer skin made of unpainted, stainless steel. After consultation with the seller, the seller states that there are slight hails on the roof and on the bonnet, but otherwise there are no defects in the exterior. All plastic attachments are also completely preserved in good condition. The gullwing doors of the DMC-12 provide quite a lot of impression: These fold up perfectly and can also be closed without problems. According to the seller, external modifications deviating from the original condition are not present on the DeLorean.
On the DeLorean original rims in multi-spoke design, tires are mounted in good condition according to the seller. The brakes have been completely revised, which is why they have no deficits. The independent suspension – front on upper triangular wishbones and lower wishbones as well as at the rear on semi-trailing and wishbones – apparently has no defects.
A low seating position awaits the driver and front passenger as soon as the gullwing doors are opened: the colour grey is very present in the interior of the DMC-12. The full leather driver's seat has some patina and the footwell carpet has a few color differences, otherwise no damage or even missing parts can be removed from the interior except for a few minimal traces of use. The 3-spoke leather steering wheel presents itself as well as the leather shift knob in good condition. Equipment on board the DeLorean are: central locking, electric windows, air conditioning, ABS and a radio.
The information offered by the cockpit of the DeLorean for the driver is abundant: The speedometer shows a mileage of 37,150 miles, which corresponds to a mileage of almost 59,790. Various documents such as former invoices and previous inspection reports can be used to prove the history and mileage of this DMC-12, according to the seller. All instruments in the interior work perfectly.
The 2.8-liter V6 engine, which is installed in the rear of the car, delivers 127 hp. Via a 5-speed manual transmission, the power of the 6 cylinders is delivered to the road via the rear axle. The seller mentions that the former biturbo has been restored to its original condition – the retrofit took place at "Deloman" (invoice of over 7,000 € is available). Only recently, a final service took place, among the most recent repairs are: The repair of the electrics and the window regulators as well as various small repairs.
Rust-free is to be attested to the underbody – this has been treated with Mike Sanders wax and shines accordingly in good shape. On the underside of the car you can also discover the stainless steel exhaust system in perfect condition. The fact that DeLorean's DMC-12 became a legend is mainly due to his appearance in the films "Back to the Future", through which he achieved fame. But even apart from that, the DeLorean Coupé makes its spectacular gullwing doors and stainless steel body desirable. If you are looking for a well-kept DMC-12 coupé that has few kilometers and a very good general condition, the DeLorean DMC-12 offered in this auction is recommended.
