Model history
The Mercedes-Benz R107, known as the SL series, was introduced in 1971 as a continuation of the legendary Pagoda (W113). Designed by Friedrich Geiger, the R107 shaped the Mercedes-Benz design of the 1970s. With V8 engines, it dominated the US market and was produced until 1989. Its successor, the R129, took its place in 1989. The R107 set new standards in safety and technology, for example with crumple zones and innovative engines.
