Vehicle description

Saab was a Swedish automobile manufacturer that was founded in 1947 and gained a high degree of recognition on the European market, especially with its compact and mid-size vehicles. The company had its best time in the 1970s and 1980s, after it entered into a merger with truck manufacturer Scania. The cooperation resulted in numerous innovations that have remained groundbreaking for automotive engineering to this day. The decline began in 1989 after the takeover by General Motors and ended in 2013 after a brief interlude under the umbrella of Spyker Cars. Nevertheless, the name Saab continues to enjoy a good reputation in many countries, with the Saab 900 and Saab 9000 models in particular being sought-after collector's items in Germany today.

In this auction, a Saab 900i convertible with the additional designation 16Valve is offered, which was produced in 1990 and first registered for road traffic in July of the same year. Little is known about the exact history of the vehicle, the number of previous owners is given as 3 to 4 people, without any further information about the owners. The Saab has been owned by the current seller for 20 years, including 15 years as a garage car. The vehicle with the identity number YS3AC75D4L7022653 has matching numbers, is certified as a historic vehicle and has remained demonstrably accident-free in its current ownership. An expert opinion confirms the good state of preservation of the vehicle equipped with a TÜV badge until June 2023, which will be ready to drive, approved and handed over to the new owner with 2 sets of keys. In addition, the driver will hand over the vehicle with a fresh TÜV.

The Saab 900 Convertible looks extremely elegant with its black exterior colour (code 170). After more than 30 years and intensive use, the paint is in quite good condition, but the body preserved in its original condition has a dent on the left front, a small damage to the trunk and slight corrosion on the fenders. The bumpers have some minor scratches, the black hood is no longer in the very best optical condition, but is fully functional.

The vehicle uses steel rims for locomotion, on which original Saab hubcaps are attached. The mounted wheels from Falken or Continental can still be used for a while, for the brakes a workshop visit should be arranged, as in some situations "pumping" must be done. No modifications were made to the chassis and its components, and no defects in this area could be found during the last service in 2020.

The interior of the Saab 900i Convertible is based on the exterior paint and is kept in dark colors. The black leather armchairs are extremely comfortable, but show signs of age-related wear. Over the years, the furniture has taken on a patina that gives the vehicle an authentic character, yet some scratches and slight damage are disturbing, which can also be felt on the leather-covered side panels and fittings. The cockpit is otherwise in quite good condition and the displays are clearly recognizable, in addition, seat heating, radio and a Becker Traffic Pro provide a pleasant ambience. The Saab 900i is equipped with central locking and electric windows, the electric folding roof allows the fastest possible protection in changing weather conditions.

To date, the vehicle has covered a total driving distance of 317,000 kilometers. This can be read on the fully functional speedometer display, and there are also documents that at least partially confirm this information. All instruments in the convertible work without restriction, as well as no malfunctions could be detected on the equipment elements.

The Saab 900i Convertible has a four-cylinder gasoline engine that produces an output of 126 hp (93 KW) with a displacement of 2 liters. The vehicle is equipped with a 5-speed manual transmission that allows it to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 11.5 seconds and reach a top speed of 175 km/h. The last service on the elegant black convertible was carried out in 2020 without any damage or impairment to the engine or technology. In the course of the H-license plate application, the subfloor was renovated and thus presents itself in a very good condition.

In the past, the functionality of the vehicle was regularly checked and spare parts replaced, and a repair on the right front axle was also necessary to remedy any impairments. At the moment, no workshop visits are necessary for technical reasons, only the outdated soft top could be subjected to a check.

The Saab 900i is a true classic of the Swedish car manufacturer, which attracted attention with its numerous innovations in the 1970s and 1980s. Headlight wiper washer and standard side impact protection were used for the first time on Saab vehicles, as well as the idea of heated seats came from the Scandinavians. The Saab 900 Convertible was built only a few years ago and with its typical look is a real collector's item and now a rarity in Germany. In view of the dynamism and good road holding, the new owner will not regret going on a journey of discovery in this beautiful black convertible with an open top.
