Vehicle description
Model history:
With the Peugeot 203, the traditional French car manufacturer did not continue the model range of outdated people's cars, but instead launched a completely newly developed generation of vehicles. The prototype presented at the end of 1947 bore a certain resemblance to the Volvo 444, but its lines were somewhat more flowing and elegant. In terms of technical design, the Peugeot 203 was certainly a modern car. It had a self-supporting body, hydraulic brakes and independent front suspension. At its heart was a robust and durable four-cylinder engine, whose high-mounted lateral camshaft actuated the inclined valves via pushrods and rocker arms.
General information about the vehicle:
In this auction, a Peugeot 203 can now be purchased, which was first registered in Germany in 1955 as the Familiale body version with the chassis number 203C551622142 and, according to the seller, has more than 7 owners to date. Although the exact history of the vehicle is no longer available, the mileage can be approximately traced according to the information provided by the current owner. The matching numbers are assumed for this Peugeot 203 Familiale, the partially restored classic car already has an H registration and the TÜV is valid until May 2024.
Exterior color/paint/body:
Visually, this estate version named Familiale shines in an extroverted red: according to the seller, a complete paint job has already taken place over the years. As far as can be seen, all add-on parts on the vehicle are in complete condition and the chrome parts on the Familiale are still gleaming. Apart from the folding sunroof, no modifications to the exterior can be identified that do not correspond to the original condition. For more details and a more precise assessment of the condition of the bodywork, paintwork and add-on parts on the car, please take a look at the other photos and videos.
Exterior rims/brakes/chassis:
According to the seller's condition assessment, the tires of the Peugeot 203 are in 50-70% of their new condition - the current owner attests that the brakes are in approx. 70-90% condition. Chrome hubcaps are mounted on the original steel rims. No deviations from the original condition can be detected in the chassis area.
Interior:
Gray leatherette seats can be found in the interior of the Peugeot 203 - the front doors are hinged at the rear for easier entry and greater space and are so-called "suicide doors", the rear doors can be opened normally. The trunk provides plenty of space (the door can be opened sideways). The folding top is easy to operate and, according to the seller, is leak-proof. Considering the vehicle is now over 65 years old, the interior is in a clean condition with no major damage or missing parts. Among the equipment on board the vehicle is a cassette radio located behind a flap. For a detailed overview of the interior, please refer to the other photos.
Mileage:
The instrument cluster in the Peugeot 203 Familiale is compact: a mileage of just 51,479 kilometers can be read on the 5-digit speedometer.
Engine:
Around 800 kilometers ago, the 1.3-liter, 45 hp in-line four-cylinder engine underwent a complete overhaul. The carburetor was also replaced and the tank cleaned and then sealed. The gears are engaged via a 4-speed gearbox. The seller mentions that the gearbox makes noises - but a replacement gearbox is included and will be supplied. Last service work took place in September 2022.
Underbody:
The seller describes the condition of the underbody of the Peugeot 203 as rust-free. From 1949 to 1954, the 203 was the only model of the brand and represents a historical importance as the first newly developed vehicle model from Peugeot after the Second World War. As a Familiale, this French classic car offered here for auction also offers plenty of space and storage space, while the red paint color makes it an eye-catcher.
