Vehicle description
Model history:
As the successor to the Healey 100, the British Motor Corporation launched the so-called Austin-Healey 3000 in 1959, which provided significantly more comfort with its full folding top instead of an emergency hood or with its side windows that could be lowered by hand crank. On request, the English roadster could even be ordered as a 2+2 seater. There were a total of three model series of the Austin-Healey 3000. With the MK III introduced in 1964, the engine output of the 3.0-liter in-line six-cylinder increased to 150 hp and the instrument panel and chassis were revised, among other things. In 1967, BMC ceased production of the Austin-Healey 3000 after just under 43,000 had been manufactured.
General information about the vehicle:
The Austin-Healey 3000 MK III offered for sale in this auction is an import from the USA, which was first registered for traffic in 1967 and bears the chassis number HBJ8L38871. According to the seller, a complete restoration of the Austin-Healey took place in 2019. The 3000 MK III has a Dutch MOT until January 2028. Further worth mentioning: a valuation report from 2019, which certifies a value of 74,500 € for the Austin-Healey, exists. The entire restoration was extensively documented by the seller over two years
Exterior color/paint/bodywork:
Visually, this Austin-Healey presents itself in a two-tone paint ("Ice-Blue" with "Old English White"), which is in apparently very good shape - moreover, all body attachments are preserved and all chrome trim on the roadster still shines as it should. The body was completely stripped and repainted during the restoration. The documentation of the body work can be traced. An accident-free condition in the current possession is confirmed by the seller. In dark blue the crackfree hood shows up, which has a plastic rear window. Modifications to the body, deviating from the original condition are obviously not to mention.
Exterior rims/brakes/chassis:
165/80 is the dimension of the tires, which come from the manufacturer Kumho and according to statements of the current owner have a constitution of 70-90%. The tires are mounted on 15-inch chrome wire wheels that are in good condition. The seller describes the condition of the brake system as new. Suspension-wise, there are apparently no inconsistencies to list after consultation with the current owner of the Austin-Healey.
Interior:
According to the seller, in the course of restoration work, the interior of the 3000 MK III was entirely modeled on the car of Princess Gracia of Monaco: Thus, there are blue Alcantara seats with white leather accents in the interior and also the door panels and partially the center console are covered with blue Alcantara. Equipment wise on board the Austin-Healey includes a 3-spoke wooden steering wheel, a tarpaulin cover and a contemporary radio. Just like the exterior, the interior is in a clean condition - no damage or missing parts can be found. The exact condition can be seen in the other photos.
Mileage:
According to the seller there is no history available for this Austin-Healey 3000 MKIII which allows the KM status to be traced. Read off the mileage is 89,777 miles. Since the complete engine overhaul and restoration, the car has been moved only 500 kilometers according to the seller. All instruments on the dashboard can be said to be in perfect working order.
Engine:
150 hp is produced by the 3.0-liter inline six cylinder of this Austin-Healey 3000 MKIII - power is transmitted to the rear axle via 4-speed manual transmission. It should be mentioned that the overdrive of this roadster has been restored, but unfortunately now shows gummed up, which according to the seller is a known problem when the overdrive is not used for a long time. To fix it, the overdrive needs to be knocked loose in the shop, according to the current owner.
In2020 last service work on the car took place.
Underbody:
Rust-free presents itself the underbody of this Roadster held. Only 500 KM were covered with this Austin-Healey 3000 MKIII since the restoration work carried out in 2019. Speaking of restoration, there are many documents as well as invoices available for this, which shed light on the work steps. If you are looking for a classic British roadster with a unique color combination and high displacement inline six cylinder, you may have already found your dream car in this Austin-Healey offered here from first registration in 1967.
