Vehicle description

The success of the 100 mile (160 km/h) fast Austin-Healey 100 was not long in coming: After its presentation at the London Earls Court Motor Show in 1952, the new Austin-Healey sold very well and Donald Healey was already thinking about how he could increase the driving pleasure even more. In the course of further development and facelift, he experimented with a powerful six-cylinder engine from Morris, which was intended to improve the running culture of the sports car. In addition, an extension of the wheelbase and the placement of rear emergency seats were considered. All these changes finally brought sports car enthusiasts the Austin-Healey 100/6, which reached a top speed of about 170 km/h.

Now it is possible to purchase an Austin-Healey 100/6 from the year of construction 1958, which comes from 1st hand. This roadster with the chassis number BN4LS70805 was registered for the first time in the USA, over the years a complete restoration of the car took place. According to the seller, matching numbers are given – this is also confirmed by the Austin-Healey "Heritage Certificate" for the originality of the engine and the transmission. Also, the 100/6 has a clean California title for the correct transfer of ownership. The Austin-Healey is already in possession of an H-approval.

Vredestein tyres are mounted on the original steel rims with chrome hubcaps: the tyres have sufficient tread and the rims apparently have no curb scratches. According to the seller, the brakes of the 100/6 have 70-90% of their new condition, the front suspension has been completely renewed and the rear suspension is upgraded with a modern TÜV-certified telescopic system.

Before the restoration began, this 100/6 was neither marked by an accident, nor did it have corrosion. The seller mentions that over the years a body restoration with blue and white paint has taken place and successively all elements on the roadster have been rebuilt. Neither stains nor body defects are recognizable on the two-tone blue-white paint, in addition, the current holder lets it be noted that the chrome trim is also complete and in excellent condition preserved. The windscreen was replaced, which now has no defects. The dark blue fabric top is fully functional, impeccably preserved and has also been completely renewed. Neither before nor after the restoration did the Austin-Healey have an accident.

Completely new was the creamy white leather interior of this Austin-Healey 100/6: leather, footwell carpet were renewed, the steering wheel covered with black leather and also the dashboard completely covered with cream white leather. According to the seller, the leather condition can be described as excellent, and all controls and instruments in the interior of the roadster are completely preserved and in extremely good condition. The trunk is padded and has a mat. Defects in the entire interior of the Austin-Healey are not noticeable.

Chrome-edged are the Smiths instruments, on which a mileage of 2,340 can be read. The car has recently been completely restored and rebuilt. Since the restoration, the car has been driven just under 100 km. A checkbook for the roadster is not available. All instruments and displays in the interior of the 100/6 can be attributed a complete function.

This 100/6 is powered by a BMC C-Series in-line six-cylinder engine with a displacement of 2.6 litres. The piston as well as the piston shirt have been renewed and the ideal compression ratio is 8.17:1. This engine has two SU carburetors, which, among other things, ensure that 117 hp of power are required. In addition to the engine, the 4-speed manual transmission has also undergone a restoration. For better regulation of the air-fuel mixture in the carburetor, a carburetor test kit was installed. The seller now describes the technology as flawless and fully functional.

Completely sandblasted and restored, the perfect underbody condition of this Austin-Healey 100/6 presents itself. In an Austin-Healey, everything looks so wonderfully unfiltered, metallic and uncompromising: this roadster demands a lot from its driver, but gives back all the more. With this 100/6, the beefy torque and the rumbling- rich sound of the long-stroke in-line six-cylinder convinces. The simple elegance of this example's two-tone body design and the attention to detail in the interior speak for themselves. Due to the fact that this Austin-Healey 100/6 has been completely restored, the roadster can be attributed an impeccable condition – this ensures that the future owner will probably have his joy with this 100/6 for many decades to come.
