Vehicle description

One year after the successful launch of the new BMW 1600, Bayerische Motorenwerke presented a brisk convertible at the Frankfurt IAA stand in 1967, the body of which – without roll bar – was developed by the Stuttgart coachbuilder Baur. In terms of technology, there were no significant differences compared to the sedan, the floor assembly was of course reinforced in the cabriolet to make the body torsionally stiff. In 1971, the 2002 Cabriolet with the two-liter engine and 100 hp came on the market, of which only 200 units were produced according to research. Accordingly, a 2002 Cabriolet is rare today.

Now there is the possibility in this auction to bid for one of only 200 BMW 2002 Cabriolets produced. The rare piece, which has undergone a complete restoration, dates from the year of construction 1971 and was first registered in Germany on 26.04.1971. The seller no longer knows exactly how many owners the BMW has with the chassis number 2790105 – but he informs us that the car has been in the possession of the last owner (BMW collector) since 1995. An almost comprehensible history of the vehicle exists, in addition to various documents, 1 set of keys can be submitted. According to the seller, a general inspection is carried out before the handover to the future owner, an H-approval already ennobles him in 2002. Matching numbers are given according to the current holder.

Except for the bodyshell, this convertible in "Polaris silver" was dismantled and then completely restored. The restoration work all took place in the workshop "Team Andexer GmbH", which specializes in 02-BMW. The current seller mentions that this work was done without regard to costs. Accordingly, the exterior of this 2002 convertible is flawless: stone chips, scratches, paint chips or other damage can not be found around this BMW. The blue fabric top is also in perfect condition, as well as the plastic rear window has no defects. According to the seller' statements, this convertible should never have had an accident.

As good as new Pirelli tyres together with Alpina multi-spoke rims adorn the external appearance of this 2002. The current owner has it mentioned that the brake system and the chassis are also in very good to mint condition and there are no defects in these areas.

The interior with its undamaged elements is impeccably refurbished: seats, door panels, steering wheel and dashboard as well as the footwell carpet impress with an extremely clean condition without deficits. Signs of wear or even damage to the interior of the 2002 Cabriolet cannot be objected to. The soft top can be operated flawlessly and without errors, and all instruments, indicators and switches inside the car also work. In addition to the perforated 3-spoke leather steering wheel, there is also an original radio in the interior of the BMW. A cover for the canopy in undamaged condition still exists.

Within the 3 round instruments in the speedometer of the 2002 is the odometer: According to this, the BMW Cabriolet is said to have run 45,950 kilometers. According to the seller, there is no proof of the total mileage of the car. However, due to the fact that it was carefully rebuilt in 2002 in many working hours, it impresses with its all-round healthy condition and thus many kilometers can be reeled off carefree in this convertible in all likelihood.

The engine compartment is tidy: A dome strut provides more body rigidity, the 2.0-liter in-line four-cylinder provides an output of 101 hp. A 4-speed manual transmission brings the power to the road via the rear wheels. A service took place only recently – defects in the powertrain are not to be enumerated. According to the seller, there is no open work.

The very good condition of the car in the exterior and interior reflects the extremely good underbody condition of this BMW 2002 Cabriolet. For all those who want to secure an extremely rare BMW Cabriolet: The seller has it mentioned that currently only 18 other full convertibles of the BMW 2002 are known worldwide.
