Vehicle description
Model history:
The Pontiac brand, which was integrated into the General Motors Group, resumed car manufacturing as early as the end of 1945. The basis for the engine of a new generation of vehicles was a V8 unit, which was upgraded to ever greater performance over the years. In 1954, in addition to the Chieftain - which was the brand's first model to feature a completely new body design after World War II - Pontiac introduced the Star Chief as a top model with a longer wheelbase. The Star Chief Deluxe and the better equipped Star Chief Custom were available as equipment lines. Over the years, various series were produced, and changes in design and equipment were made almost annually. In 1967, the Star Chief series was replaced by the Pontiac Executive.
General information about the vehicle:
In this auction, a Pontiac Star Chief Catalina is now offered for auction, which is the Custom version as a 4-door hardtop sedan variant. In 1956 the first registration of this American full-size sedan with the chassis number P856H29754 took place, since the beginning this Star Chief was according to information of the seller in family possession and was ordered anno dazumals as special order. From 1978 to 1987, the 4-door hardtop sedan was stored, after which family members re-registered it and registered the Pontiac as a classic car. An exact history to the car cannot be provided, however, the seller states that a total of 3 owners are to be listed to the vehicle and the so-called matching numbers are assumed. The Star Chief is already in possession of an H-registration, the last completed MOT shows a validity until May 2024.
Itis worth mentioning that a valuation report is available, which certifies the Pontiac the grade 2+.
Exterior color/paint/body:
In unrestored condition, this Pontiac Star Chief Catalina stands here in original two-tone paint - repainting took place in the area of the end plate, in the trunk and on the inner sill (invoices for this are available). In the 1956 model year, the Star Chiefs got rocket-shaped inserts on the front bumpers as well as a slash on the front door above the beltline. The lack of a B-pillar makes this 4-door hardtop sedan look elegant and gives it a little bit of a convertible feel when the windows are open. All body parts are in good and complete condition and no modifications from the original condition are visible on the exterior.
Exterior Rims/Brakes/Chassis:
Typical 1950s flair is provided by the whitewall tires mounted on the original rims, which, according to the seller, still show approx. 70-90% of their new condition
. Thecurrent owner also attests 70-90% of the brakes of the vehicle and according to him there are no inconsistencies worth mentioning.
Interior:
The special two-tone design of the exterior is continued in the interior
:
Thus, the somewhat patinated imitation leather seats show up in white and brown, and as accents to this, many chrome parts can be seen in the interior. The equipment of this Pontiac Star Chief Catalina Custom includes a contemporary radio. There are no missing parts in the interior of this 4-door V8 hardtop coupe and according to the seller all gauges and controls are fully functional. In order to get a detailed overview of equipment and condition of this Pontiac, we recommend to look through the meaningful photos and videos to the vehicle.
Mileage:
According to information of the salesman the Star Chief covered 89,870 miles since its first registration - this would correspond to a mileage of approx.144,630.
Engine:
From 5.2-liter cubic capacity the V8 engine, which is accommodated in the front, draws a power of 205 HP, over an automatic transmission the power transmission to the rear wheels takes place. After consultation with the current owner of the car, last service work took place in 2021.
Underbody:
According to the owner, there is no welding work on the underbody, only on the rear area on the left. Only light flash rust can obviously be detected on the underside of the car. A preservation with partial cavity sealing already took place according to the seller. At its time, the Star Chief was Pontiac's top model: due to the many chrome elements, the two-tone paint - which according to the seller was only available on the 1956 models - and the two-tone interior, this Pontiac Custom reflects the pure 1950s. The seller also lets it be known that this Pontiac Star Chief was one of 48,035 custom cars produced in 1956.
